Description
The Belle-Vue brewery is a story of more than 100 years of craftsmanship. Philémon Vanden Stock started as a so-called ''gueuze steker'' as early as 1913: he buys lambic from local brewers and uses it to create "Gueuze". In 1927 he took over the Belle-Vue café in Anderlecht, which was also the start of the Belle-Vue brand. When he took over the Vos Kina brewery in Molenbeek in 1943, he changed its name to the "Belle-Vue" brewery. He transforms from a gueuze steker into brewer. Under the leadership of son Constant Vanden Stock, the brewery grows strongly, partly through numerous acquisitions in the 50s, 60s and 70s. In 1975, the brewery moves into the old site of the Timmermans brewery in Zuun (Sint-Pieters-Leeuw). Belle-Vue has been part of AB InBev since 1981. Within AB InBev, the Belle-Vue brewery also functions as a pilot brewery and plays an important role in the Belgian network.

1999 bottle, many thanks Mats! Clear deep orange color with no head. Aroma is berries, vineous, parmeggiano, horseblanket. Taste is horseblanket, a bit of everything, vinegary, but not too much yet. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Held up well!

Bottle. 2018. Color: Red, pink head. Aroma: Sweet cherries, vinegar. Taste: Rather strange mixture of sweet, old and overripe cherries and sour vinegar and orange zest. I support the previous thoughts of Alengrin that Belle-Vue, most probably because of the revival of real traditional Gueuze and Kriek, used blended old stock of the sweet Belle-Vue Kriek and artificially soured this blend with things like orangze zest (printed on the label) and.vinegar, sour apples or something like that. Definitely not a real traditional Kriek. Tasted once and never again...

19/10/2018 - bottle @Judoclub Oudenaarde. Orange wtih small rim. Nose is grainy, cookie. Taste is grains, some apple, caramel, sweet, bit lemon. Very strange beer, not perse bad but way too sweet for a gueuze. Drinkeable for sweet beer lovers, says it all.

I wanted to refuse to buy this beer. Fuck inbev, they are the ones destroying the lambic scene, and now it's profitable, they'll jump on the hype train? Than, I was offered a glass. Bottle bought, so technically not sponsoring inbev, for my own conscience sake. The bottle immidiatly shows its fake as fuck. This is not a 'oude' kriek. They don't use the name ( as they shouldn't.) but they do make it seem so. Calling lambic ' spicy', flat bottom ( which proves the pasteurization), the fact they blended 'different vintages of belle vue kriek'.,... Everything shouts out how freakin' fake they are. What I even hate more about this beer. Is that it truly ain't that bad. Given in a blind tasting, it'd be no match to the real stuff true, but I could drink it ( if it were not to be inbev) if I had a bottle. I mean. It's tart. Simple, straight, mild tart. It's cherries. I mean, simple straight and no complexity cherries. But that's kinda already more than I had expected. It sure as hell shall be chemically. Knowing the company. But at least it doesn't taste flat out chemical. Simple, 'made', and no match to the real stuff, but better than I had hoped. Still wanna disencourage others to buy this tho, even if only from an ethic point of view. But the beer itself? I must admit is not as bad...

Bottle at home ordered via a 56k modem. It pours rich cherry red with a quickly dissipating white head. The sweet upfront, cherry syrup, candy, cherry drops, tangy fruit cordial and some balsamic vinegar. The taste is bracing acidity upfront, harsh balsamic vinegar, cheap salt and vinegar crisps, enamel ripper, rawness, old musty cherry, cherry drops and damp wood with a harsh, acidic finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Doesn't exactly live up to the famous "selection lambic" title.. Rather harsh and acidic. A shame.

F: medium, bit pink, not long lasting. C: yellowish red, hazy. A: cherries, red fruits, citric, lemon. T: sour cherries, one dimensional lemon, not complex at all, quite sour and thats all hardly refreshing feeling, bit woody, medium body, low to medium carbonation, not good at all, sample from 75cl bottle @ RBBSG 10/2018.

06/10/2018 - sampled from bottle on RBBSG 2018 Orange to red, no head. Nose is sweet cherry. Taste is first sweet cherry, than a sour lemon touch, not as Kriek lambic should be. Could also imagine something was added to make give it a sour touch. Hey, as expected I might say.
