Description

Depuis 2011, je brasse mes propres bières: Big Mama Stout, Big Nose Triple, Holy IPA et Seed of the New Grace.

Je soutiens également des projets de personnes ayant suivis mes cours de brassage.

Hazy amber colour, medium sized creamy ecru head; aroma of smoked ham, some biscuity and dried fruity notes, soy sauce and hints of whisky; taste of malty-syrupy sweetness, smoked cheese and whisky notes, some dried apricot and hints of soy sauce; much(-much!) better than 'Strabismus' but still definitely not a tripel

Hazy ámber colour, moderate sized ecru-like off-white head; aroma of whisky, biscuits, caramel and dried apricot; taste has the same notes with intensive alcohol; first: it is very far from a typical tripel; second: this barrel-aging like whiskyness is not really fits to the style; third: it does not have enough body to this high ABV...

24 October 2019. At Bier Circus, Brussels. Cheers, Anke & Pieter! Pours hazy dark amber with a lasting, small frothy, tan head; lots of lacing. Aroma of raisin, biscuit, apple cake, pear, orange peel, plum. Taste is light to medium fruity sweet, plum & raisin on a biscuity malty base, bitter orange peel, spicy paprika, a bit grapefruity, more dry in the piney hoppy finish, hinting at blood orange, red grapefruit, pomegrenate perhaps. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Amber Ale-ish, Red IPA, somewhat Belgian too... A bit of everything, but a good beer.

NovaBirra’s Big Nose, a dry-hopped tripel, aged on barrels that previously contained August 17th, a Walloon whisky brand from the province of Namur; part of a new series of Belgian specialty beers issued by Emanuele Corazzini’s ‘bierfirma’. Mousy, regularly shaped, medium thick, pale greyish off-white head breaking quickly in the middle but still well-retaining considering the alcohol, warm and deep amberish-tinged ‘cognac’ orange blonde robe, lightly hazy at first but misty with sediment. Aroma strongly dominated by booze (indeed clear and pure whisky but brandy-like as well), almond or even marzipan, honey liqueur, canned peach, orange zest, vanilla-like oak wood (strong!), strawberry, pineapple, black pepper, biscuit cake, vague hint of fried egg. Sweet onset, yellow raisins, candied fig and candied orange, touch pineapple, medium carb, light sourish edge; smooth, bit resinous, deeply caramelly malt middle, biscuity too, tad peanutty perhaps with a very thin toasty edge, quickly soaked in evidently strongly whisky-like alcohol, colouring the finishing stage completely with peppery alcohol heat and outspoken whisky flavour; meanwhile the vanilla effects of the oak wood shine through retronasally and very explicitly so, while malt and hops contribute to a soft end bitterness, which is largely overruled by the wryness and heat of the booze. Woody tannins and candied orange sweetness, along with honeyish residual sugariness, linger through this whisky effect. Bold and powerful winter warmer, a Belgian barleywine of sorts (not unlike Dubuisson’s Bush Prestige, for example) with an inviting though utterly boozy nose, ‘bigger’ than actual Big Nose indeed, but perhaps a tad too alcoholic in the end for me personally.

Many thanks for Big Mama to tderoeck. Piwo ma fajny wylad, spora szara piane, bardzo trwala, ciemno brazowa barwe, geste, o palonych i czekoladowych nutach, dosc wyraznie goryczkowe, winne i lekko kwaskowe. Przypominalo portera w londynskim stylu zmiksowanego z owsianym stoutem, malo tu prawdziwego RIS. No ale fajne sporo kakao, czekolady deserowej. Thanks Tim for this.
