Sorachi Ace Lager 5% A clear gold with a lemon coconut nose. The taste is crisp light crackery malts, coconuts and minty green hops. Very pleasant and a nice start to the fest with its bitter bitting finish. A nice start to this fest.

Tap at Yokohama Fes. Fruity nose, peach, some mango, a bit of diacetyl. Meaty Czech-like malts, nice flavor, though there is some diacetyl and it seems a bit old. Oily body. Ok, but would like to try it again in better shape.

Opaque black with no head. Nice lacing. Cacao, roasted malts and wood on the nose. Slightly watery mouthfeel with a touch of stickiness, but the body is too thin. Overly sweet on the palate with some bitter roastiness that comes out as well. Slight bitter finish that lingers. On tap at CBM Jimbocho. Dark brown with a small beige head. Very subtle aromas of malt, toffee, coffee and caramel chew with a hint of resiny hops. Taste is very subtle and muted on the palate. The coffee and caramel chew come out nicely. Mildly creamy mouthfeel with a medium body. Medium carbonation with a nice dry finish. On tap at CBM Koenji. Big caramel aroma with a hint of chocolate on the nose. Some resiny and piney hops present as well but just a hint. Taste is sweet and bitter. Malt-forward amber with only a touch of bitterness on the finish. As it warms up the toffee and brown sugar notes really stand out with a little stone fruit and raisin showing as well. On tap at CBM Koenji. Hazy amber with a modest off-white head. Huge malt aromas with caramel, toffee and a slight bubblegum presence on the nose. Taste is more of the same. Sweet with a hint of saltiness. Great breadiness and sweetness with the hops taking a backseat to the malt. Clean dry lager with lots of fruitness from the hop. The hop actually works well with a lager, which I didn’t think it would given how much I don’t really care for single hopped American hops Pilsners.

Found this oddly tart for a pale ale and not very bitter. Pretty uninteresting overall.
