Ryukyu Pale Ale from Orion Breweries Limited

Looks like Asahi’s Orion beer is getting in on the craft game with a new Orion Craft Series. This is their Ryukyu Pale Ale 5.5% A deep gold appropriate ABV with a minty fruity pine hop bouquet that has a flour/light bready tinge. The taste is fairly bitter, a little astringent pine & fruity hops but the finish is bitter grains. A passable pale ale which at 250¥ is ok but I’d probably pay the extra 20-50 yen for a Yo Ho beer or Captain Crow.

Can. Minerally, citrus nose, light biscuit malt. A bit of peach. golden-orange color, clear, with a high head. Sweet fruit flavor, a bit of honey, strong bitterness, orange, grapes. Peppery finish. Decent stuff.

Clear, yellow-golden colored, small white head. Aroma is malt, rice and grassy. Taste is low sweet malt, rice, corny notes, veggies, some hay. Light, watery texture, soft carbonation. Quite dull...

Pours golden, bit of foam but not much of it. Aroma is quite stereotypic - wet cardboard, some malts and something artificial. Taste is just nondescript, usual industrial lager. Some bitterness at the end. Below average.

Can in Macau. The nose is like our hotel soap. The "beer" starts floral sweetish - like a good soap. Fresh, a bit too perfume. My granny would love it - but not for drinking... Absolutely disgusting stuff...

Can in Macau. 5.5%. The beer starts slightly sweetish. Like all Orion beers, this has nearly the same taste: none. Watery grainy aftertaste. Very watery with hints of sweetish grain.

Can in Macau. Fresh smooth and slightly sweetish brew. No real flavour, hints of grain, hints of malt, that’s it. No real aftertaste, no bitterness.

Can in Macau. Watery grainy beginning. Slightly bitter, slightly grainy on a very watery basis. Fresh slightly bitter aftertaste, easy to drink but no real depth.

Can in Macau. Slightly sourish grainy taste. quite dry, but more dusty-grainy than fresh. Dry sourish fresh grainy aftertaste. Strange.
