About
Jason Harris and Craig Basford decided they were going to do more than just brew the beers they’d been concocting in their man shed for years: they wanted to bring others along with them. So, more than a decade after they’d started making beer together in a rented farmer’s shed in the Barossa, when Big Shed Brewing Concern became a reality it came with an invitation to their peers: if you’re looking for somewhere to brew, we’ve got the space for you.

Keg at Draft House Charlotte, 16/01/18. Black pour with a well presented tan cap. Nose is chocolate biscuit, honey dollop, toffee fudge, light roast malts, brown sugars. Taste comprises chocolate, vanilla essence, mellow malt base, molasses, touch of Crunchie bar meets Golden Grahams. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. A more than competent sweet stout.

I rated this 3.8 a few years back and wrote this - It's a freaking frosty fruit! So many childhood memories flossing back right now. But a second tasting tonight is less enjoyable. Boozy fruit is the right name. It has a strong aroma of overripe fruit. The taste is slightly cloying, with a surprisingly dry finish that tastes a bit like aspirin. My two tastings are like chalk and cheese.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a tan head that lasts pretty well. Aroma of mocha, sticky bread crusts, molasses, licorice, oak. It's not mere suggestion, I can smell slow roasted carrots. Quite sweet with heavy roasted malt that's almost acrid but is still struggling a mite to rein in the sugars. Very silky texture with lowish carbonation. Not hot but there's a real rumble of booze towards the end. There's quite a lot of bitterness but it doesn't do much other than gradually chop away at the sweetness. A bit of salt (as is Doc's wont). Drinks considerably above its weight.

From a 330ml bottle on 5/8/2017. My first ever carrot beer. Pours a deep brown with a medium head. The nose is interesting - some soy, caramel, chocolate, vegetable and booze. Flavour wise, it’s big and intense. Quite sweet up front with the chocolate and caramel, which is met by a big roasty, charred bitterness. It finishes a touch salty, but it’s not over the top in the scheme of things.Fullish bodied with soft carbonation. I don’t really get any carrot, yam or Belgian in it, but it’s a very pleasant impy none the less.
