Can. Clear amber with a frothy white head that fades to the rim. Aroma of pine, sticky breadcrust, cooked kumquats, vague tropical fruit. It seems a little early for nostalgia -- for Modus or WCIPA -- but a whiff and you do take their point. Sweetish and with plenty of dank tropical notes oozing from the caramelised malt before a resinous bitter finish that leans enough towards dry. Pretty good.

Can. Perhaps it was the black label that led me to think it was going to be dark but it's a lovely reddish amber with a white head that lasts OK. Rich toasty aroma with mild spices. Tastes more biscuity but not very sweet with a drying bitter finish that has a slight whiff of booze and a tight fist of spice. Modus Operandi has not always impressed me away from their core strength in biggish hoppy pale ales but this is an absolute triumph.

(Can) Pours very dark brown with red highlights and good tan head. Nice aroma with notes of nuts and coffee. Full bodied, quite smooth, nice carbonation. Taste has a burnt sugar / dark toffee bitterness throughout palate. There’s notes of nuts, port, toast, liquorice. Overall though the burnt bitter taste is not sufficiently balanced by rich tastes.

Can. Very dark brown with a large light tan head. 3+ Aroma of mocha, chestnuts, light spices, licorice. Bittersweet with licorice, coffee, singed sugars, firm bitterness. It's OK, but there's not much that's luxurious about it either in richness or depth. Disappointing.

Can. Hazy orange. Surprisingly subdued nose. Just a touch of citrus. Nice body. Strong and juicy, with bitter aftertaste. Hides booze very very well.

(Can) Pours almost black with big dense tan head. Lovely aroma of chocolate and toasted grains, reminded me of a chocolate digestive. Medium body with good full carbonation. Good taste but a little lighter than I was expecting. There’s toasted grain and dark chocolate. Very nice.

From a 375ml can on 8/6/2020. Pours a hazy medium golden with a small head. The nose is dank and tropical. Tastes of apricot, mango and melon. It's very sweet up front with a moderate spicy bitterness providing some balance. The mouthfeel is rich, slick and syrupy, the carbonation moderate. A very enjoyable sweet, big hazy.

Can. Opaque brownish orange with a inch of white head. Quite subdued aroma of peach, apricot, pulpy mango, some earthy notes. Much more vibrant taste with some citrus, much brighter stone fruit, cantaloupe, sweet passionfruit. Pleasantly creamy texture. Not a lot of bitterness but enough of a finish. Deft balance. Awfully strong for a fruity bagatelle, but it's a pretty nice drink.
