I thought I’d already rated this… picked up at the brewery last August when visiting Currumbin.

Balter black lager 5.4%

Great roasty dark lager with chocolate bun malt notes. I felt it was a dry light easy drinking well-balanced schwarzbier.

Yesterday, the Y Market Mexican lager had sold out but thankfully I had this in my fridge.

Balter Cerveza
Mexican Lager 4%

On sale for 4$ at Dan Murphy’s in Brisbane. Nice clear gold with thick white foam and a crackery sweet aroma. Light bodied, crisp and clean. The taste adds a dash of lemon.

Solid summer crusher.

What's with all these Japanese-influenced black lagers in Australia all of a sudden? Has there been an evening class? Can. Almost black, light tan head that's soon a coat. Aroma of coffee, powdery roast, bread. Quite sweet with dark roasted coffee to balance. Modest bitterness. OK, perhaps a little meek.

Can (Balnarring Ritchie's). Clear golden amber with a loosish 2cm white head. Coherent citrus, stone and tropical fruit aroma with light breadcrust and hints of pine needles. If anything, more tightly bound together elements upon a taste, before firm (*by modern standards) bitterness. Very good and unusually polished for a collaborative beer.

Can. Pale gold, white head. Aroma of preserved lemon rind, grass, gooseberries, nectarines. 8+ Sweet hayish malt, loads of very Kiwi fruity hops, fairly bitter finish. A little more bitterness wouldn't have hurt but this is very good.
