Keg at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours lightly hazy amber-gold with a creamy off-white head. The nose has lightly toasted grains and pine, some wholegrain bread, hints of ripe orange. Medium sweet flavor with prominent toasted malt character, some dry caramel, stale pine, graham crackers, dried out citrus. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Toasted grassy bitterness to finish with more dry, toasty malts, grains, caramel, some leaves and orange rind. Not great.

Draft. A black beer with a brown shine under a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, brown sugar, roasted malt, and hints of smoke, leading to a smooth roasted finish. The body is light. To me it lacks a bit of body, but the flavor is wonderful.
