Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

clear amber, smooth beige head, looks awesome
ARoma is malty, slightly bready or buttery but really, really refined, alc. can clearly be sensed as a stingy sensation, apart from that, a quite complex barley wine with tons of energy.
Flavor is moderately boozy , barley wine, malts, sweet malts, nutty malts, faint wood, delicate, faint caramel. it's a very boozy sipper, but pretty complex in its apparent simplicity. still, i feel a bit like the beer could be more complex and less boozy with all the effort put in.

Bottle drunk 8/24/25.
Dark, clear. Small, light tan head.
Holy cardamom, batman! How is there this much cardamom after 3 years?! That said, it smells lovely and it's not quite dominating any more, though it's very prominent still. Thankfully there's a rich, barrel aged stout next to it that has moderate fudge and crunchy, earthy cacao. Spicy bourbon and hints of cinnamon-like spice.
Soft, very malty, with excellent attenuation. Chewy chocolate-caramel-fudge with light vanilla and lightly spicy bourbon. Cardamom not as strong in flavor, leaving the stout to really do its thing. But there's an undercurrent of it. This is a really malty, well-attenuated stout with exellent fudgy, deep malts. Wish they would have gone a bit less crazy on the cardamom, but I love spice and herb so I'm still ok with it.

11oz pour at Andy's Pizza NoMA in 2025. 7 years old. Let's fucking go. Lots of carb in a rootbeer brown body. Lacy beige head. Nose has a ton of spice, mostly baking. Nutmeg and cinnamon and clove over a malty body. Toast. Carob. Licorice and anise on the nose. Flavor starts inky with licorice and anise and stays. Huge jagermeister notes. Coffee. Dried fruit. That anise thing must be age. Otherwise the Chile and mole and spice is gone. Wanted mole and got Underberg. Not bad, just not what I wanted.

I've had this one before, but we just cracked into a 2015 vintage at the DC Beer share. Just had this, it's a decade old and really holds up. Quite nice. A little alcohol on Earth, nice sweet malt. Delicious
