Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

2024 bottle drunk 3/22/26.
Coconut though is it from actual coconut or bourbon? Almost certainly the actual coconut, though the bourbon is very fruity and lightly sweet. Vanilla pretty minimal, and there's a fudgey character to the malts with minimal roast and no alcohol noted.
Rich, with huge coconut-fudge notes and some alcohol woven in. It's not hot/sharp but it's certainly apparent. Syrupy, thick, rich, malty texture. Gooey and cakey with bourbon spice, some woody dryness and just sugar for days. Definitely pushing it on the sweetness, and sweeter than I'd prefer; though not cloying. Would definitely prefer a bit more bourbon depth/complexity in place of the huge coconut, which as a sidenote, must have been disgustingly overdone when this was fresh if it's still so dominant now.

I was thinking, Wow, an Omnipollo beer without a ton of stupid shit in it?! But they've still "Omnipollod" the beer by putting too much adjunct in it and leaving it way, way too sweet. All that said, it's still a competent dessert sipper, though I'm dumping more than half of the bottle as I'm not really in to diabetes.

Another beer that gains points when drunk at a beer fest (as 95% of the ratings are from here), as it's fine and tasty in a very small sample. But when you sit down with a full bottle, you realize it's not incredible beer.

Lekker warmend. Medium body. Afdronk is iets bitter en houtig.

Bottle from Total Wine & More, W. Hollywood. Opaque black with nice viscosity, thin head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong earthy, peaty roasted malt, lesser bourbon. Taste is earthy, peaty malt, mellow bourbon, crème brûlée, leather/tobacco. Smooth, silky texture, medium bodied, soft carbonation, finish as taste. Bourbon is fairly restrained, allowing other elements to shine. Wonderful texture. Nice beer.

2024 bottle drunk 3/5/26.
This smells much more balanced than the darker ray I just had, while still offering up a ton of rich, sumptuous vanilla and a bit of nut paste richness. Caramel and fudge with little/no roast, but still enough acidicy from gentle barrel character. No alcohol, no excessive sugar. Could be a bit more barrel, but it's there and well-done.
Rich and malty with a lot of caramel character in place of the usual fudge/chocolate/roast. Bourbon is, as the nose, a bit timid, but it doesn't leave you scratching your head. Just wish there was a bit more spice/wood/tannin to help balance the rich malts. Still, barrel aside, this is a rich and rewarding beer with lovely, tasteful adjunct and no alcohol noted.

Interesting beer unlike almost anything I've had. Loads of vanilla, maple syrup and cinnamon. Yet almost no dark malts - really an ale with lots of spices and additions. Very tasty though.

Sample, thanks fonefan! Deep rubyish mahogany colour, bo head. Aroma of maple syrup, vanilla and baked apples. Very sweet with full to massive body and viscous mouthfeel. Maple syrup and crackery malt. Candied apples with custard drowned in vodka. Syrupy finish with boozy alcohol. Unpolished imperial pastry style barley wine.
