Established in 2016, owner and operator Mark Babson, a former brewer and quality technician in the industry, now spends his days in the brewhouse or behind the bar creating favorites like Más Verde, Mo’rilla, and Glimpse.

Bottle pour shared by Chalumeaux--thanks, TJ! Hazy yellow with no sparkle, head. Aroma is strong funky, tart fruit. Taste is strong funky/tart fruit. Frothy texture, average carbonation, tart finish as taste. Strong aroma and taste. More tart than I like.

500 ml. 2021 vintage. Thank you ClarkVV. Aroma is melon, lactic acid, white wine. Flavor is mildly acidic, melon rind, and mild tartness. It is ok. Flavor is all over the map.

500mL bottled, 2/10/2021, drunk 1/20/24. Clear deep brass. No head. Funk, earth, mineral, rich, juicy melon and mousey pediococcus. Sadly it results in quite a bit of acetic character. Juicy, huge melon notes, not as much acetic character as the nose suggests, but still quite acidic and very sweet. Just kinda messy and unfocused, though not bad. Seems like it needs at least another year in barrel.

Blackback draught, 1/18/24. Medium haziness. Bronze-brass. Small, beige, moderately-well-retained head. Soft and Juicy, tropical and spicy. You could accuse it of scallion. I won't. Soft, juicy, tropical. Light blueberry and heavy floral spice on the finish. Does give a damned good mosaic impression. Scalliony, one might say. Spicy, soft, juicy, a bit sugary.

Brewery draught, 1/18/24. Lightly-to-moderately hazy, pineapple-golden. Small ring of bubbles. Green and spicy. You could say scallions, but I choose to enjoy the heavy herb and blueberry accented character. Clean and mty with light honey and cracker. Soft, juicy, herbal, spicy, malty and dry with a lean finish and moderate bitterness with huge spice. A different, non-blueberry-like Mosaic character but I think it's very interesting.

Rhythm of the Night (Batch 6) from River Roost Brewery

Brewery draught, 1/18/24. Batch #6. Dark. Dark tan head quickly to ring. Really nicely expressive nose of both bourbon and base malt. Not over-roasted and not excessively tannic, not boozey. Don't get as much port, but that's fine with me. Deep chocolate, vanilla, black pepper and rounded liquor. Juicy almost, with soft, fudgey chocolate and a fluffy texture. Raisins, dates, vanilla and balancing bourbon. The whiskey dries as the chocolate and date sweetens. Full body, short of syrupy, but never loose/thin. Lovely.

Brewery draught, 1/18/24. Moderately hazy, bright, lemon-pineapple. Small, white head quickly to cover. Juicy lemon, orange and various playful tropical fruits in the nose with a hint of onion, perhaps. Balancing, soft base malts give a honey suggestion. Clean, no alcohol. Spicy, somewhat sharply bitter for a hot second. Maybe some lemon rind/oil with a soft, biscuit and honey like maltiness. Clean, no booze. Not your typical Motueka, but the spice is interesting and grows on you. Good texture.

100 Seconds to Midnight from River Roost Brewery

Brewery draught, 1/18/24. Dark, clear, near black but with garnet-auburn highlights. Small, tan head quickly to ring. Chocolate, peanut, some heavy cracker. A bit overly roasty, it seems. Not tons of base malt expression. Soft, chocolatey, lightly sweet and malty with a watery finish. Some old coffee bean-like character. Pleasant, and not as over-roasted as the aroma suggested, but just missing a crisp texture and lager-like finish.
