On draught at Mondial, 6/3/2005. Decent-sized white head is somewhat retained atop a very light, pale-gold/white body. Smells of plenty of maple fudge, and has a bit of paperiness in there as well. Walnuts to the max. Kind of like opening a tub of dry walnuts. Flavor has some maple to start, but then a lightly sour, very cheap, cerealish grainy malt appears. Some table sugar like sweetness. Boring pale malt. Walnut/maple finish, but far less inspiring than the nose. Papery, sugary, dry mouthfeel, highly attenuated, medium to medium-light body.

2004 bottle from Dépanneur Rahman. Deep carrot-orange colored beer, some light earthy brown tones, and gold tints as well. Tons of foamy white head is lasting and provides tons of lacing. Aroma is full of funky veggie-fruits and has tons of dry yeast, lots of spices and is quite strong. I was reminded of Chimay Bleu when smelling (and drinking) this. It has that carrot-juice-like yeast aroma and flavor and something like Special B fruitiness of raisins and plums. Flavor is malty indeed, quite sweet, caramelly, sugary and full-bodied, with the yeast ever-present and a moderate amount of coriander/black pepper spiciness for balance. Light alcohol warmth on the end is not out of place. Fruity sweet (peaches, sweet pears, sweet apricots and oranges) with more sugar on the finish. A big beer, but I really enjoyed it. Probably a good candidate for extended aging. Bubbly, naturally carbonated texture, leading to spicy retronasal notes.

2005 bottle, Christmas in April....Orange-auburn-cherry colored beer, off-white head, initially medium, with moderate retention. Sediment at the bottom of bottle. Little aroma, even when sticking my nose in to the snifter. Raspberries?, Belgian yeast?, maybe cinnamon.....Flavor really speaks to why there is no aroma. Starts out with some lightly sweet malt, and sugar BUT, almost instantly cardboard begins coating the palate, drying out everything, killing all of the flavor. Water and cardboard, albeit not unpleasant, through the middle. Finishes with some iron, weakly toasted grains and burnt cinnamon toast (but mostly water). HIGHLY/FULLY attenuated. Almost all water. What are they trying to do here???

Bottled. Cloudy amber colour. Acidic papery malt aroma. Lemony with sweetish malt and soft mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Interesting, but not much lambic character.

An unclear orange beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of oranges and lemon. The flavor is sour with notes of malt and lemon. I’m glad the label says it is 100% natural - but I rather have the real stuff.

Muddy golden color. Some malty aroma, think of a Belgian Ale… Vegetable taste, a bit sour, disgusting, unfair to drink right after a real Bellevue…

2004? Bottle HUGE Thanks to Rastacouere for this! It may not be a Belgian gueuze and may not be even a gueuze at all, but bring it on! Opening the bottle, there is vapor given off, but no signs of infection (gushing, etc.). Pours a healthy amber to light caramel orange, with sediment in the bottle, and a fair amount of haziness in the glass. big white head on top. Aroma of spoiled peaches, light apples very dry wheat and plenty of sour yeast. Notes of light sugar grace the nose as well. Flavor is immediately lactic and quite sour at that. Light barnyard notes, but also an odd sugary caramel sweetness that dosent seem to belong. I do like the finish, though, as it’s quite deeply sour, has a wheat twang to it, with some quenching lemony tartness. Ripe cheese acidity. The alcohol is not terribly noticeable, and if I even realized it was 8abv before drinking, I forgot until looking at the description now. Body tends more towards a cider. Perky carbonation, attenuated, but still plenty of flavor. I must say, whatever the hell this stuff is, I REALLY enjoyed it! I’ll be buying a bottle of it when I go to Montreal. Rating is based on a Belgian wheat ale, not a lambic (which this is not).

Bottled. Cloudy golden. Doughy malt aroma with some acidity. Lemony, but in a balanced way. There’s melon and other fruits and pleasant, deep malt character. No bitterness.

Bottled. Cloudy orange. Vinous with some acidity. Clean rounded mouthfeel, medium sweet. No bitterness. Despite it’s relatively high alcohol it’s refreshing. An original and interesting beer.
