12 oz. can, pours jet black with a small, very dark brown head. Aroma is rich and rounded, with deep dark cocoa, molasses, dark sugars, an appropriate amount of cinnamon, maybe a hint of peppers, and light wood. Flavour confirms this impression but brings out more cinnamon and chilis—somehow without overdoing them—backed by lots of sticky dark sugars, molasses, some roasted malt, and gentle wood barrel presence. Finishes spicy (from both the cinnamon and peppers), with low residual sugars, even a touch of acidity. For a beer with adjuncts I’m not too hot on, this is made very well.

Can. Pours opaque black, small tan head, some lacing. Aroma is heavy cinnamon, chili, cocoa, whiskey, vanilla. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, light plus chili. Over spiced. Medium body.

Tap. Pours hazy golden, small white head, good lacing. Aroma is light, hints of pine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter. Medium body.

12 oz. can, pours a dirty dark brown with a small tan head. Nose has a nice bourbon barrel expression, dry toffee, and bready caramel malts. Flavour is rich, with big burly malts, a pretty refined bourbon blend, bready caramel, toffee, a touch of vanilla, and oak. Medium-bodied for the style, with great malts accentuated nicely by good barrel treatment. Excellent.

Dark amber, opaque. Not much head. On the nose it has a lot of barrel, and hints at a fairly chewy accent. On the palate, it's not as chewy as it smelled like it would be. Instead, it's got a soft vanilla note, with a lot of barrel, just a hint of peat. Well-balanced. These are solid barley wines.

355mL can. Pours murky brown with a pale beige head. Loads of whiskey barrels, caramel, treacle, and dates on the nose. Flavour is rich and chewy, loads of caramel, treacle, brown sugars, and dates. Whiskey barrel character is great, rounds out the beer nicely and gives a hot finish. Almost has an apple brandy character at the end, which isn't great. A bit rough, but still very nice.

On tap at Urban Family, pours an opaque bright orange with a small white head. Aroma is bizarre, with a pungent mix of tequila barrels, tropical fruit juiciness, and lacto. Flavour is much the same, bringing out a nice tequila barrel character, but, unfortunately, the base is so shitty that the barrel can’t rescue it: lots of tropical fruit juiciness, sugars, and yogurty lacto. Why would you put such a garbage, low-effort, cheap fruited kettle sour in a tequila barrel? Nonsense.

Weird bottle. 50cl maybe? Clear gold, basically no head. Green apple, a little green grape, apricot there. Flavor is green grape, some stone fruit. A little washed out. Thin.

Appearance: black in color with a quickly dissipating foamy to fizzy head which didn't leave any lace
Aroma: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, black coffee with some light notes of dark fruits and then a lighter note of some chilis
Flavor: merges the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to roasty character initially and then provides a lighter note of the chili spiciness; finishes roasty and chocolatey with an even lighter dose of the chilis
Texture: light to medium bodied - maybe closer to medium bodied, leaning towards being a sipper; the chilis seem pretty tame throughout consumption and really don't lend much aggression as I thought they would have
Overall: seemed more like a lighter bodied stout with chilis in it than a wild/sour ale but hey, what do I know. I'd still have this again and hopefully Urban Family beefed up that body to be more of a bigger stout-ish like beer to equate to the ABV they said this beer is supposed to be.
