Description
OUR REASON

We are a 30-barrel production brewery and tasting room located in Charlottesville, VA.

Reason Beer was born of 20 years of friendship and more than a decade of brewing between founders J. Patrick Adair, Jeff Raileanu, and Mark Fulton.

Since leaving Charlottesville in the early 2000s to pursue their education and careers, Mark, Jeff, and Patrick stayed in constant contact through a shared passion for beer and love for their hometown.

In 2017, after three years of careful planning, recipe development, and design, we have reconvened in Charlottesville to create a world-class brewery.

Reason Beer was founded by three lifelong friends returning home on a mission to make the world’s greatest craft beer. We strive to create beers that exemplify balance, creativity, and flavor.

Reasonably hazy copper and deeper golden coloured body with a two to three centimetre tall tan head that's microfoamed and stays afloat nicely. Aroma of yeast, dough, bread, light citrus fruit, a touch of tropically fruit sweetness and a scent of mild flowers, but fairly subdued in the nose. Light-bodied; Strong doughy and yeastie flavours show at first with a big malt note along with some dryish, grassy notes and only a dash of the citrus side of things bringing out anything related to hops here - there is no bitterness or depth with them at all. Aftertaste is relatively structured and balanced with a doughy, yeastie malt note showing stronger than a herbal and barely noticeable citrus hoppy flavour with a subdued sweetness at the end. Overall, a decent, if that, unfiltered (this isn't New England at all) IPA that has a strong doughy and yeastie flavour more than anything, without any real complexity or range here. Decent enough to try, but if you're reading this, pass this one up and get something...anything else! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 23-October-2021 for US$4,29, canned on 28-July-2021 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 30-October-2021.
