Bottle, thanks to Matt W. Deep dark brown pour with a nicely lingering medium sized tan head. Nose was piney hop, citrus and roast. Flavour had notes of dark chocolate, roast, malts, citrus and some pretty robust hop bitterness. Well smothered alcohol. Dried out nicely towards the finish. A very solid and drinkable Black IPA from Buxton who now boast a top quality quiver.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours dark brown/black with a very slight tan head that didn’t linger. Nice aromas of burnt malt and hop. Near full bodied. Flavor is very burnt malt with something very like herbal hop. Maybe a bit grassy. The hop component is strong, rendering this bitter. There’s a bit of chocolate. The herbal aspect is strong and continuing. Hoppier than many. Finishes on a surprising note of slightly milk chocolate. There’s a lot to think about with this one.

Bottle from Bottle Shop, Cheadle Hulme [101114]
Pale amber yellow, soft haze, frothy white head
Aroma of fresh grapefruit, nice fresh citrus, pale sweet malt, tropical fruits
Taste of pale sweet malts, citrus zest hops, soft grapefruit, soft juicy fruits
Palate - Medium carb and body, creamy texture from the oats, smooth, bit gooey. Finish is smooth, zesty hops, grapefruit
Overall - Nice juicy fruits, good intense flavour, not sure about the mouthfell - seems slightly over viscous 3.6

Bottle from Great Grog, Edinburgh 7/4/7/4/15 3.7 [022112]
Light amber...clear..frothy white head..good lacing
Aroma - Citrus hops...grapefruit..sweet citrus fruits..pale golden malts..as it warms up a bit of grassy hop and slight farmyardy smell.
Taste - citrus hops..some grapefruit..citrus zest...bit of grassy hop...sweetish pale malts..light citrus fruits...quite complex as it warms up.....really refreshing.
Palate - Medium carb...light body..bit oily texture...moderate bitter and citrus tangy in mouth. Finish as main flavour with increased bitterness...lingers a little then cleans off palate.
Overall - A very good flavoursome session ale - I imagine this would be really super on cask!

Bottle, Chester Beer & Wine. Hazy amber pour with a thinnish off white head. Lovely aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruits and resinous hop that promised good things. The flavour delivered in spades, shining hop presence alongside some juicy fruit. Cracking balance and really tasty stuff. Long lingering bitter finish. A truly excellent IPA which more than punches its weight and sits comfortably amongst the finest English offerings out there.

Bottle at home, 18th February2012. Lovely aroma pours to produce a nice looking glass of beer, taste is very pleasant perfect carbonation. I liked this, but I prefer the Axe Edge, that has a fuller flavour all around. Good beer though

Bottled at 137:ans, Södertälje. Really black, minimal beige head. Rich aroma of chocolate and licorice. Mid sweet, full bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Licorice, leather, tar and darik chocolate. Long really bitter finish with peppery alcohol. Well made, albeit unadventurous American style Imperial Stout.

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Shared with Matt. Good looking slightly hazy amber pour with a decent white head. Very promising nose packed full of juicy citrus and grassy hop. Flavour duly delivered with a well balanced mix of fruit and hop alongside a little sweetness. Dryish bitter finish. Very high drinkability. A first class English IPA from an increasingly excellent stable.
