Bottle at home, 4th February 2012. Been looking forward to this one. Intense hoppy aroma, grapefruit, pine, flavour is amazingly intense, smacks you round the face, delicious complex taste, pine, resin, bitter grapefruit pithe. Lovely, best get some more in, one thing, I would describe this as an IPA, not a double IPA, does not hold the ABV for a DIPA

Bottle from the Bottle, York
Pale amber...hazy..small white head...not much lacing
Aroma - Hits you when you open the bottle - complex citrus aromas of grapefruit...bitter orange..mangos..tropical fruit..even a hint of banana...sweet pale malts...wonderful aroma
Taste - Fruity complex citrus hops with all the fruits in the aroma....some resins.....bit of spicy hops in the background with sweet juicy malts....very moreish
Palate - Medium body...soft carb...sweet citrus tangy..bittersweet...mouth puckering. Finish as main flavour (which is so good it doesnโt matter)...bit of increased bitterness...lingering pleasantly then gently fades away
Overall - This is the sort of beer that makes me excited about British brewing. Simply a world-class IPA. Superb. However, be careful with the yeast as that adversely affects the beautiful flavours in this beer.

500ml Bottle - Hazy gold, almost like a wheat beer, with a foamy head. Pineapple, grapefruit, lemon and pine feature in the enticing aroma. Tangy, hoppy and full-bodied taste with notes of grapefruit, pine and some slightly soapy hints. Really refreshing, enjoyable and tasty. Impressive.

Take 2 - Cask @ Holyrood 9A 280912
The palate is so smooth now and has a great finish, not over roasted or bitter now. Itโs a fantastic BIPA 4.1
Bottle fron The Bottle, York 8/4/8/3/16 3.9
Very dark brown - black..rich tan head..very good lacing
Complex aroma of roasted malts..light coffee...some grassy bit earthy hops...bit of citrus..resinous hops...slight smoky wood...some burnt crust
Taste.... initially roasted malt..coffee...burnt..some liquorice...grassy and citrus hops..grapefruit - well blended...In the middle more hop bitterness comes through. Loads of flavour..very tasty...more emphasis on roasted notes than hops
Palate Medium body...smooth...soft carb. Finish is quite dry...roast malt..coffee...lingering bitter citrus hops around the tongue and bitter roast...perhaps a bit over bitter and roasty here or would get 17/20
Overall - Very well made beer...lots of flavour...good BIPA.....but Thornbridge Raven still the one to beat so far
