Description
After years of hobby brewing and an increasingly ardent interest in brewing as a profession — including countless brewery tours and immersion in local and online brewing interest groups — John Martin and fellow home brewer and co-founder Ken Broadhead launched Confluence Brewing in 2012. John left his construction management day-job to pursue Confluence and his passion for beer making full time.

The brewery is itself a confluence of John and Ken’s love for Iowa and craft beer. The result is a microbrewery that shares Iowa’s attributes of honesty, humility, hard work and a sense of humor. Confluence also has Iowa’s knack for being a delightful surprise to those who actually experience it.

Confluence cares about the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into making excellent beer, and knows that excellent beer can bring good friends together.

One quart growler purchased from Whole Foods in West Des Moines - pours a burnt orange - creamy, fairly thick head - fairly sweet nose of caramelized sugars, honey, floral hops, some munich malt richness -creamy texture, low carbonation - rich, smooth maltiness up front - sweetness is a bit much, but a balancing bitterness ardives late - there is a surprising amount of alcohol heat, which makes me wonder if it’s higher tham 6%- finish of lightly spicy hops - there is a touch of huskiness, but mostly a fairly enjoyable maibock, albeit a bit sweet at times.

32 oz growler shared by jcwattsrugger. Hazy amber in color with lasting head retention. Nose is caramel covered biscuits with a light yeast note. Mild fruit undertone.

Flavor is toasted malt, light fruity hints with a bready chewy texture. The body is light with a clean finish. Refreshing and thirst quenching brew. Very sessionable and I could drink a lot of this. Nice stuff John.
