The brewery is itself a confluence of John and Ken’s love for Iowa and craft beer. The result is a microbrewery that shares Iowa’s attributes of honesty, humility, hard work and a sense of humor. Confluence also has Iowa’s knack for being a delightful surprise to those who actually experience it.
Confluence cares about the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into making excellent beer, and knows that excellent beer can bring good friends together.

Tap at the brewery. Clear dark brown small beige head. Nose is cocoa and dark fruits. Tastes of brown sugar, light fig and plum, molasses, earth, honey. Chewy mouthfeel. I like it.

Tap at brewery. If there was saison under here it’s completely masked by boozy barrel aged ness. Dark copper gold Amber. Nose is bourbon. Tastes of sweet vanilla bourbon, dark fruits. Very sweet.

Tap at brewery right after landing. Golden orange small head. Nose is pine and caramel. Tastes of pine, resin, caramel, malt backbone. Standard but tasty straight up IPA.

Sampled from the tap at El Bait Shop. Pours a hazy yellow gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has grapefruit and citrus with a light grain backbone. Flavor has a nice citrus note with a bit of grass and light grains.

Sampled from the tap at El Bait Shop. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice grassy hop note with light pine and grass supporting. Flavor has a citrus and pine combination with grass and light grain backing.

Nitro Zombie Grill. Pours black with an earthy brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of earthy dark grains with a bit of roasted malt and lactose underlying. Flavor is full of roasted malts and dark grains with a touch of bitter chocolate in the finish.

Draft/Fest. A- Wheat, grassy, citrus, soap, gum. A- Yellow color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Wheat, spices, citrus. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly sweet finish. O- I can’t figure out what exactly this was supposed to taste like. It was all over the place.

Draft/Fest. A- Coffee, citrus, hoppy, spices. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Coffee, bitter, citrus, black pepper, floral. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, spiced bitter finish. O- I just have a hard time getting the coffee and fruitiness and bitterness to all balance well enough for me to really enjoy it.
