Welcome to the rebirth of Charlottesville’s longest-running brewery and pub! South Street Brewery was purchased in 2014 by Blue Mountain Brewery, whose owners have a deep connection with this storied brewing establishment. Two of Blue
Mountain’s founders—Mandi and Taylor Smack—both worked for South Street over a decade ago, Taylor having been the brewer from late 2001 until early 2007. Our company is
committed to maintaining and revitalizing this important Charlottesville landmark and gathering place.
We hope you enjoy our expanded beer offerings, including venerated South Street originals that helped shape the Central Virginia beer scene, as well as new beers reflecting the diversity and experimentation that is the heart of American craft brewing.

Keg at the brewpub. Clear amber, large frothy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate. Taste is plum, citrus, raisin, caramel. Thin. Solid.

Total Wine, Fairfax bottle: poura dark amber with large head. Exagerrated amber ale aroma coupled with some hops and bourbon barrel. Tatse is lightly bitter, quite sweet. Very much not my style of beer.

Keg at Draft Taproom. Clear red amber, thin fizzy offwhite head, good retention. Aroma of toast grain, caramel, pine, green hops. Taste is pine, resin, green, raw malt, toast, berry like fruits.

Tap at south street. Pours orange with a soft beige head. Nice citrusy aroma, pine, caramel. Flavor is burnt pine, caramel, dish sponge, citrus peel, orange juice, floral hops, lemon zest, alcohol. Lots of flavors in this one. First sip I wasn’t thrilled but it gets better as I go on. Quite good.

On tap at south street. Pours slightly hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma is faint; browning leaves, tall grasses, mild earth. Flavor is browning leaves, earth, light grass, light glue. Fine.

Bottle at hotel bar. Lighter copper color. Nose is bread and light hops. Tastes of bread, caramel, hint of fruit and dusty hops. Had to drink quickly since had to run back to room unexpectantkh.

Tap at the brewery. Pours hazy pinkish gold with lots of carbonation and a dusting of a head. Aroma is tart cherry, coriander. Flavor is... oh wow. This is good. Tart cherry, coriander, green leaves. This is nice - tart without being grossly sour. Very impressed!
