Description
Jaanihanso is a family owned cider house and orchard on a historic farm dating back to the 18th century. Our family bought Jaanihanso in 2000. Our knowledge of the farm’s history originates from the papers that we found from the house, and from older villagers stopping at our gate to reminisce about the “old days”.
The renovation story of the estate has been in sync with our own growing pains. Some years with larger construction works, some years not that much, but there has been constant mutual bettering. In 2013, when the last bits of the house had been refurbished, the car had to move out from its brand-new pigsty-turned-garage to make room for cider. Famously, a garage is the best place to start a venture.

Golden-amber. No head. Has a nice appley note, there's a light spice note. On the palate, sweet and sugary, lightly spicy and a bit of dark sugar notes. This is nice, with a bit of acidity for balance. Solid example. The wood notes kick in quite a bit in the sweet/tart finish.

Bottle at Cider Salon, 2018. Golden colour, short-lived white foam head and aroma of apple, vanilla, caramel. Taste is fruity apple, caramel, light funk and dry tannin. Light to medium bodied, fine bubbly spritzy carbonation, dry tangy finish. Nicely drinkable.

37,5 cl bottle vintage 2016 @ home. Rated on 20.5.2018.
PARTII: 012016
Aroma has apple juice extract and mild alcohol tones. Flavour has somewhat intensive apple juice extract, some apple peel, some traces of flour-ish apples and warming alcohol. Warms throat very nicely. Drinkability is – surprisingly – not that good. A slow sipper cider like these ice ones usually are. Not as good as Pinnacle but better than the Lepaa one. Clean and sweet.

On tap at Pudel Baar, pours a hazy dark red with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of fruity red berries, red wine, and apples. Flavour is complex, with lots of red wine must, tart and dry red berries, and red apple skins. Love the grape must and dryness of this. Excellent.

Bottle sample from the source. Clear golden color, fizzy. Server described this as close to champagne, and that's pretty accurate. Dry, lightly vinous, light tannins, quick finish. Good stuff.

Bottle from the source. Cloudy golden color, fizzy. Simcoe hops. Aroma of earth, apple, subtle citrus. Taste is dry, earthy, lightly tart mixed fruit. Tasty. Smart move, appeals to craft beer drinkers, good crossover.
