Description
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Newcastle, Maine. The brewery is nestled in an enchanted forest amongst rolling farmlands and winding tidal rivers, of which the ebb and flow provide a constant reminder that the coast is near.
The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days.

This didn’t quite fit under the regular Farmhouse, or the barrel aged version. A special cask at Churchkey. Murky pale yellow color, scant white edge head. Aroma of vanilla, pine, citrus. Taste is sour and dusty straw and lemon. The oak chips added an earthiness and maybe some bretty characteristics. Not bad.Earlier Rating: 2/24/2012 Total Score: 3.2Draft at Smoke and Barrel. Hazy golden color, small white head, solid lacing. Aroma of straw, hay, white pepper. Taste is pine, subtle lemon, straw. Not bad.

Draft @ Great Lost Bear. 5 oz. taster. Clear amber color, or I see that from the poor lighting. Nose is light Belgian yeast with mild citrus. Body is light with a nice effervescent mouth feel. Flavor is mostly just as the nose. Very straight forward and easy to drink.

On tap at Churchkey. Pours a hazy, straw yellow with some thin, white head. Nose of light lemon, light orange peel, yeasty, definitely some rye, grass, dried grains. Flavor is malty, bread, sweet, lightly peppery, some other lurking spice (like a light caraway seed), yeast. Light, dry finish. Another solid brew.

Draft at Snallygaster Beer Fest in Washington DC. Poured a cloudy yellow color with a nice, thick white head. Aroma was spicy, with some rye notes in there. Flavor is about the same. Very enjoyable brew, very flavorful, and with a low ABV, this one was really really drinkable.

On Tap at Eb’s Pours a slightly hazy deep golden color with a fleeting off white head that leaves some stickage on the way down. Smells of lemon and funk with bits of wood and bready malt deep underneath. Earthy, bready, lemony, funky flavor with bits of wood. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a tart mouthfeel. Interesting brew. A funky pale on wood sounds like its going to be a mess, but somehow it all melds together nicely and it just works.
