Description
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Newcastle, Maine. The brewery is nestled in an enchanted forest amongst rolling farmlands and winding tidal rivers, of which the ebb and flow provide a constant reminder that the coast is near.
The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days.

Draft. A brown beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of butter, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of lemons, butterscotch, and brettanomyces, leading to a tart finish. Weird, wonder if this is how it is meant to be.

Bottle @ Stephen’s house. Thanks Luke! Pours a burnt orange appearance with an off white head. Funky and juicy, vanilla, pineapple, tropical fruity nose. Slightly tart, pineapple, mango, vanilla, papaya flavor with a fair amount of oak. Kind of a fun beer but not quite as good as some others I’ve had by them.

Tap at Alewife, Baltimore - solid take on an americanized saison - hazy gold - thick, soapy lace - aromatic and floral nose, with mild funky phenolics - dry, crisp pils malt flavor - frothy mouthfeel - crackery malts give a firm base for the hop bitterness, and there is a light earthy funkiness to it, along with some light phenols of pepper and plastic (the good, Orval-ish kind) - light balancing sweetness to finish, but it is light, airy.sweetness - the more I drink of this, the more similarities to Orval I see - very nice.
