Description

This porter poured a deep black colour with a light tan coloured head. Nice lacing. Scents include caramel, ripe fruit and molasses. First swig was strongly flavoured, malty goodness. With added flavours of Melloids cough drops. Slightly burnt with nice heavy malt flavour. Finish is a little bitter with heavy dark malt flavour lingering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a slightly unfiltered deeper amber colour with a warm cap that stays long enough for such a high alcohol content, giving creamy lacing. Dark fruit aromas (dates, figs) with some candy notes, among cinnamon spices. The spices are in front on the tongue (with nutmeg), but not too strong as the rest is quite mild. All nicely balanced. Not really representing the style, but a nice winter warmer. Very easy to drink.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with some residual candi sugar is pleasant enough. Taste is a mix caramelized malt with light dry fruits and candy like ester with some residual candi sugar notes. Body is bit light for style with good carbonation. Not bad but doesn’t have the complexity usually associated with the style.

A random from, of all places, the Beer Store. (Really? When is the last time I was there.) Smells of heavy toasted malts, booze, almonds, coffee. Taste thick sweet toasted malts, coffee, a little booze. A solid baltic porter. Doesn’t blow my mind but it does a good job.

Deux Freres’ Charles Henri White 5.1% Apparently it won Bronze at the 2016 Canadian International Beer Awards. It pours a cloudy straw gold with tons of wheat and nice coriander in the aroma. Well balanced flavor of coriander, wheat and lime.
