Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

750 c&c from Pangaea Bottle Shop. Pours clear bright gold with a large foamy white head and tiny bubbles. Aroma has a subtle honey note; otherwise yeasty/earthy/herbal. Med body. Flavor has honey, but it isn't making the ale sweet. It's yeasty/earthy, dryish and pleasingly bitter. Very clean. Quite tasty.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a large off-white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt notes with nice fruity notes also easily noticeable. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt notes with some fruity notes and a dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice mix of caramelized malt notes with some fruity notes.

Honey and some dates. Pours black with good head and lacing. Some hint of smoke here. An odd one, and certainly different from most Biere de Mars. Light bitter finish. A hint of caramel, but pretty dry overall. Slick, watery consistency. Tap at Sovereign.
