Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

750 ml corked & caged green bottle, as Au Baron Cuvée des Jonquilles Blonde, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7%. Very pale golden colour, huge white head. Very nice fruity and spicy aroma. Slightly sweet, fruity and lightly spicy flavour, easy drinking and quite enjoyable, but a little more bittering hops would not hurt.

From a corked 75cl. bottle. Hazy straw yellow colour, small fizzy white head, dissipates quickly, minimal lacing. Aroma pale malts, light lemon, light caramel, barnyard. Taste medium sweet and sour, citrus, spicy notes, leading to a light bitter finish. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, rather plain altogether.

75cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Tderoeck. BB 31.12.2017.

Big white head doesn’t last. Hazy deep yellow body with carbonation. Fruity spicy teak wood aroma with herbal lacquer aroma. Very unusual. Dryish fruity spicy mealy taste with herbal toffee notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish lemony fruity spicy aftertaste with herbal, caraway flower notes. Very elegant and unusual beer. I really like it. Highly drinkable. (0.75l bottle, from wine monopoly, Storo, Oslo.)

Clear dark blond beer, big fizzy irregular off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: nice, some marijuana first, yeasty, grassy, bit floral. Reminds me very much of the hoppy Dupont beers. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very bitter start, grassy, marijuana, nice eurohops, bit malty, grains, some citrus. Aftertaste: bitter, grassy, bit metallic, bitter, pretty herbal.
