Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

Bottle, 75cl corked. Almost clear in the glass, pale golden in color, and topped by a dense, white, finger-thick head. Flowers, pale malts, hints of white sugar, some banana and a generic fruityness in the aroma. Medium body with a soft carbonation. Decent bitterness and a mostly fruity flavor with some flowers, banana and white sugar. Rather dry though, it’s not on the sweet side. Lasting fruity finish. A tasteful and quite refreshing one, interesting too. 160102

750ml bottle. Cloudy, amber colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Mellow malty, sweet-ish bready aroma, fruity hints of apple, berries, fruit parings. Taste is moderately sweet caramel malty, slightly bready and biscuity, a bitter hoppy touch of green apple parings, fruity hints of green and yellow apple, berries.

Really great Biere de Garde. I confess that I am not a fan of the style but this is just as good as what Kernel do. Good job. #sxshare

Bottle shared at home. Big gusher so half the bottle lost on the floor. Slight hazy golden with short lasting off white head. Quite sweet malty notes, some honey and flowers, light lemon, lots of light spicy yeast with some white pepper, nice farmyard character. Medium sweet and very light bitter and sour. Medium bodied with slick feel and a bit soft but fizzy carbonation. Nice.

750 ml bottle. Slightly foggy, pale golden body with a small white head. Aroma is spicy with yeast, wheat, some banana and maybe coriander. Dangerously light and refreshing in flavor, mild pale malt, wheat, spices, yeast and fruit. Medium to light bodied and refreshing in aftertaste as well with a floral ending. Might not be exactly in accordance with style, but I sure enjoyed this one.

Bottle. Has a dark brown color with a small beige head. Lots of dried fruit in the aroma along with brown sugar, oak, forest floor, wild berries and leather. The flavor contains more of the same and is quite sweet. Brown sugar, oak and dried fruit being the most dominant. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. A sweet beer but good and well balanced.
