Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

75cl bottle, thanks Eric for picking this up from the brewery. Pours a hazed gold, large white head. Lovely rustic farmhouse saison nose. Beautifully balanced spicy notes, fresh harvest pale malt with teasing saison yeast. Just lovely in every way. Fantastic saison.

Very good, dense, stable yellowish head over finely carbonated copper-orange beer. I recognise the typical aromas from the Au Baron yeast, mixed with the dry summer aroma of freshly treshed grain, graindust, green leaves. Dry, just-not-bitter flavour, with malt and dry grains underneath, dry wood. Finish is sweeter, strengthening warming up. Slick, well-carbonated, medium bodied. I got a déjà-vu, reminiscences from the long-ago Cuvée des Jonquilles, once of my favourites. Vive Au Baron! The grainy dryness makes the difference. NB "Uytzet" historically means 'dowry'. Txs to Stef!
