Our philosophy is to brew beer with the adventurous craft beer drinker in mind—focusing on hand-crafted, small batches of beer, using local, seasonal and organic ingredients as much as possible.

Our beers are influenced mostly by Belgian and American craft styles, but the addition of premium ingredients such as fruits, spices or wild yeast strains sometimes causes the beers to defy traditional categories. Our barrel aging program features a wide variety of beers aged in wine and spirits barrels, ranging from a Rye barrel-aged Mexican Chocolate Stout to a wild yeast-fermented Saison aged on Missouri wine grapes in French oak wine barrels. We strive to always achieve balance with each of our recipes, making our beers exceptional with food.

Bottle - thanks jlanning! Pours opaque deep black with a medium creamy dark brown head and great lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malts, chocolate, cinnamon, chili pepper - very enticing. Flavor is the same, medium sweet with light pepper heat and light bitterness. This beer really comes together, with all of the components working and blending into something much greater than the sum of its parts. Every bit as good as honey-poo, maybe better? Full body, rich creamy mouthfeel. I wish this were available in my area!

Bottle. Pours with a hazed golden hued body with a medium sized white head. Aromas are floral, chamomile, earthy, estery, fruity, slightly funky, sage, pepper and pear. Flavors are earthy, bone dry, light spice, elegant, estery, pear, sage and chamomile. Bone dry with very lively carbonation. Good stuff.

Bottle at Torst. Pours black with tan head. Nose and taste of heavy mint leaf, roast chocolate, milk chocolate, cocoa and vanilla. Lots of mint up front. Medium body.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with bone white head. Nose and taste of yeast, lemon, grain, light citrus zest and light bready malt. Medium body. Light tartness. Drinkable. Just a bit bland.

$16.49 for a 750ml bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours almost black with a dusting of a head. Smells like a York peppermint patty. Tastes like burnt oil or that yellow cough syrup I had as a child. This was hard to get down, but got better as I drank it.

Hazy orange pour with a frothy, well-sustained head - nose of spicy and citric American hops, lightly musty yeast, earthy malt, tangy citrus - smells more like an American IPA than a Belgian ale, but still nice - full, frothy carbonation in the mouth - flavor is medium dry, with crackery malts, crisp hop bitterness - a bit of earthiness, metallic notes, dusty/basement yeast late, followed by lingering, lightly sweet orange zest and a light herbal note - it’s a good beer, but not for the price - nice to try a Perennial brew, though.

On draft at Pizzeria Paradiso Washington DC. Pours a hazy amber with a fine off white head. Aroma of cider vinegar. Flavors of sour apple mash with some light caramel notes. Sour astringent finish.

Draft. Very dark brown color, brown head. Aroma of chocolate covered mints. Taste is big, roasty cocoa, on the sweet side for sure. Tasty.

side by side with the BA version. a really great stout but it’s very hot with booze, the chili is very spicy and doesn’t blend well with the base beer. chocolate finish and up front was very pronounced. comparing this side by side with the BA, it lacks that nice balance that the time in oak and the bourbon imparted. This is hard to drink if you have the BA version beside it to have.

Side by side with abraxas. Very spicy, loads of chocolate milk, lactose undertones. Habaneros that blended really well with a soft booziness. I didn’t expect such a mind-blowing "spiced stout" but wow. This is the first one I really love. Worthy of the hype. seriously.
