Description
Owner Kyle Funk and his brother-in-law Jon Norman (Norm) are partners in Funk Brewing Co. which began brewing in 2014. Wether it’s Nirvana, Apple, or Funk, all great things start in a garage. Both Norm and Kyle started brewing in their garages with a turkey fryer and Igloo cooler. Later, Kyle’s and his mechanical engineering background built a magnificent brew house from scratch in his garage.

With Kyle’s brewing ability and Norm’s business background it made sense to start a brewery. The duo went to the Colorado Boy Brewing Company brewery school in Ridgway CO. After being laughed out of a few banks they were finally given a loan and the keys to 19 South 6th Street in Emmaus.

Since 2014, Funk has grown to 2 taprooms (Emmaus and Elizabethtown) and a distribution footprint of 7 states in the Mid Atlantic.

Draft at Bert’s in Millersville. A lightly pale with slight haze. This class ass head at first. Lots of tropical fruits with only a bit of grass/green hops as it warms. A bit more bitterness than I want. Flavor has more bitterness and light sandpaper taking away from the fruits. But my burps sort of taste like lychee.

Draft at Bert’s in Millersville. Well it is super hazy. Thick cloudy pale color with sticky lacing. The hops are strong and the bitterness is low. The azacca seems to be more prominent with a dry medicinal character and grassiness but no where near as bad as that sounds. Flavor has a little fruit but a very dry herbal type hop but not noble. It’s actually fine and I generally don’t enjoy azacca but this works.

Draft at the Fridge in Lancaster, PA. Slightly hazy golden color with strong, sticky lacing. Aroma is grapefruit rind with some lysol/chemical like hoppiness. Same in flavor, just a stripped out hop flavor that comes off industrial. Not much else to it.
