Description
Owner Kyle Funk and his brother-in-law Jon Norman (Norm) are partners in Funk Brewing Co. which began brewing in 2014. Wether it’s Nirvana, Apple, or Funk, all great things start in a garage. Both Norm and Kyle started brewing in their garages with a turkey fryer and Igloo cooler. Later, Kyle’s and his mechanical engineering background built a magnificent brew house from scratch in his garage.

With Kyle’s brewing ability and Norm’s business background it made sense to start a brewery. The duo went to the Colorado Boy Brewing Company brewery school in Ridgway CO. After being laughed out of a few banks they were finally given a loan and the keys to 19 South 6th Street in Emmaus.

Since 2014, Funk has grown to 2 taprooms (Emmaus and Elizabethtown) and a distribution footprint of 7 states in the Mid Atlantic.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: burnt yellow cloudiness with a finger and a half's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace.
Aroma: citrusy hoppy juiciness with some berries and some white grapes; mild clean malt
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together in a bitter to sweet to slight zesty appeal; finishes citrusy, berry-like and some white grapey tones
Texture: light to medium bodied - maybe slightly closer to medium, some kind of sessionability about this, some smoothness and a little bit of hop bitterness (we're getting there, Funk, I can tell this is a bit lower than some of your other beers)
Overall: I like this one and would return to it.

Can to becher glass.
Appearance: blurry yellow to gold color with a two and a half fingers of white foamy head which dissipated fairly nice to leave some light lace
Aroma: citrusy and piney hoppiness; slight spicy to zesty sort of hoppiness, light malty underneath
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together somewhat bittersweet with a light finish of the citrusy hop tones and the malts
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable; some hop assertiveness affecting what could be a smoother beer if the brewer lowered the bitterness
Overall: nice enough pale ale but once again probably more bitterness than what should be there. For me, maybe I could come back to.

Can to nonic glass.
Appearance: semi-thick yet sort of burnt orange blurriness with a one and a quarter fingers of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: some tropical fruity hops, light citrusy hop tones and a clean malt base
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together bittersweetly with a sly juiciness to it, slight finish of the tropical fruity hops
Texture: light to medium bodied, some sessionability; slight smoothness along the tongue but also some hop assertiveness
Overall: nice enough hazy IPA I believe I could still come back to but might be nicer if that hop assertiveness was lowered a bit more.

Can to English pint glass.
Appearance: fairly thick looking orange cloudiness with a one finger finger white foamy head which slid off nicely to leave some light lace.
Aroma: very grapefruity initially then seems to open up into a blended citrusy hop scent
Flavor: bittersweet through the grapefruity and other citrusy hop notes; finishes very citrusy
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable; some hop assertiveness along the tongue but not too much
Overall: nice enough AIPA that just needs to be smoothed out a little bit, I think I could still have this one again.

16 ounce can. Number one with a bullet. Hazy yellow gold color. Large rocky white head is enduring. Bright citrus aromas hint at lemon, tangerine and pineapple. Flavor is bittersweet citrus and passion fruit. Added notes of pink grapefruit and orange. There is an underlying spiciness that emerges as well. Very drinkable for 8% ABV.

16 ounce can from Trenton Road Takeout. Number one with a bullet. Mostly opaque dark brown color. Large pillowy tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma hints at milk chocolate. Flavor upfront is tangy, sweet chocolate. Overly sweet with the addition of lactose and vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel. Bittersweet chocolate notes in finish.

We can sit here and analyze how horrible this beer is, or we can focus on the positives. Mathys Tel is coming to Spurs on loan, so I rescind my comment about him being a French 🐓sucker, and the smoking hot chick that comes into RBS gave me her number!
