Description
Owner Kyle Funk and his brother-in-law Jon Norman (Norm) are partners in Funk Brewing Co. which began brewing in 2014. Wether it’s Nirvana, Apple, or Funk, all great things start in a garage. Both Norm and Kyle started brewing in their garages with a turkey fryer and Igloo cooler. Later, Kyle’s and his mechanical engineering background built a magnificent brew house from scratch in his garage.

With Kyle’s brewing ability and Norm’s business background it made sense to start a brewery. The duo went to the Colorado Boy Brewing Company brewery school in Ridgway CO. After being laughed out of a few banks they were finally given a loan and the keys to 19 South 6th Street in Emmaus.

Since 2014, Funk has grown to 2 taprooms (Emmaus and Elizabethtown) and a distribution footprint of 7 states in the Mid Atlantic.

Draft sample at the brewery, 5/25/19. Unclear reddish-copper. Flavor is malts and dough under the adjuncts. Not bad, but a bit too heavy on the adjunct sweetness for me to like it more. 7/4/6/3/13

On draft at Plan B Simsbury. Very murky pour, pineapple juice-like. Nice stone fruit and grapefruit aroma. Flavour is stone fruit but doesn’t quite live up to the aroma. Nice pleasant finish

Cans consumed both @ and later from the brewery, 5/25 - 6/3/19. Fully hazy and murky rusty orange color with a thick off-white head and heavy lace. Big resin / pine hops with some juicy citrus and some rye / spice playing nice;y with the dominant pine / resin. Big dry mouthfeel, long, long lasting finish. This is a really nice beer. After a few cans my rating is pretty consistent.

Dry hopped, but taste like most American style Hefeweizen. Good beer.
