Cloudy orange-brown body, medium light tan head. Aroma of banana and clove. Flavor is mostly the same although tangy wheat, toast, and a hint of chocolate keep the yeast from totally dominating the palate. Not as good as their regular Hefe-Weissbier but still not too shabby.

2004 draught @ MacGreggors in Rochester, NY. Pours a beautiful deep orange with light reds and yellows swirling about. Good foamy white head, and while the aroma was not anything out of the ordinary for the style, I found the flavor to be excellent -- plenty of lightly sour yeast flavor is balanced by a solid caramel sweetness, light grainy texture and a bitter/sharp kick on the finish. Very bready throughout, maybe even a bit too sweet and lacking of complexities, but it wasn’t approaching cloying, and at least the evident malt provides for a good solid medium body. Lively carbonation and overall an enjoyable experience.

Bottled. Not as light in color as the other German Oktos we tried, and closer to what we accept as the style. Good dark maltiness is well balanced here by its hops.

That was the first nonlager beer that I ever tasted. It remains a sentimental favorite. The first time I tried it, I drank it fast, and from a bottle. I hated it then, thought it was too lemony, spicey and generally undrinkable, I expected to see it bashed on sites like this, but I’ve seen only really positive reviews of it. That got me thinking, and I realized that the problem wasn’t in the beer, but in the way I was drinking it, tried it again, this time sipping it slowly from a glass, and the taste opened up to me. And I loved it. It’s smooth,a bit yeasty, and looks a bit murky, amd the banana taste lingers a bit in the background.

Bottle. Darker amber color with a thin white head that leaves lace on the glass throughout from beginning to end. Caramel dominates the flavor and aroma. Soft earthy hops add to the flavor, but the body is just a bit thin.

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark.) Filtering off the goodies - what an idea! But that’s what Kristall Weissbiers are all about, for the benefit of people who wouldn’t dream of drinking a beer they can’t see through. With Franziskaner Kristallklar they get at least a decent aroma of banana and cloves, the beer is pale yellow and crystal clear indeed, pours with an enormous head. Flavour is crisp and moderately sweet, some cloves are there, but of course it’s not as good as the Hefe. Still a nice refreshment.

Poura a nice cloudy orange with a big lasting head. Aroma is very creamy and yeasty. Flavor is like a nice fresh batch of banana’s. I also get lots of yeast and a very bitter flavor like lemon. Very smooth and drinkable and probably one of my favorite hefe’s.

[At Fete de la Biere 2004, Lausanne] An orange beer with a fine though disappeaering white head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of caramel. The flavor is very hoppy and quite sweet, the end is dry hoppy. It is boring for the style though the body is powerful.

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Pale golden colour, like a pils. Good to moderate head. Pleasant fruity aroma. Flavour is smooth, mellow and clean, hops are subdued. Easy drinking. Nice beer, but hardly worth a fest in itself.
