Description
Diamond Bear Brewing Company was founded in 2000 by Russ and Sue Melton with the mission of providing Arkansas and the region with a beer of their own. Diamond Bear was Little Rock’s first production brewery in 15 years. The name "Diamond Bear" comes from the first two nicknames for Arkansas. Initially, Arkansas was called "the Bear State." But in 1905 when diamonds were discovered in Arkansas, it was changed to "the Diamond State."

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, spices, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, cloves, and malt, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Review from notes, sampled 7/12/2008 Received 6 of these recently as part of the beer of the month club my wife purchased for me. Thanks for the opportunity dear. Deep straw color with a good sized rocky white head that laces some of my glass as it disappears. Smells a little sweet a little grassy and grainy with a bit of wheat. Taste is a little sweet, a little grainy, a little grassy, a little boring. Nothing really objectionable here, but nothing really great either. Medium to light body with ample carbonation and a sweet grainy mouthfeel. Meh! Glad I got to try it, but probably wouldn’t want any more.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 6/8/11

Aroma: The nose is slightly roasty, some caramel, and a littke chocolate
Appearance: The pour is brown with a creamy light brown-beige head
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, caramel and roast, fairly light earthy bitterness as well
Palate: The mouthfeel is fairly smooth and creamy, light-medium body, and slightly dry on the finish
Overall Impression: This was a solid porter, nothing too exciting going on, but all the necessary components were present. There isn't a ton more to add beyond that, just a solid beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 6/6/11

Aroma: The nose is fairly citrusy, orange notes, a bit of candied sugar, and floral hop notes
Appearance: It pours a pretty much clear orange color with a frothy beige head and some lace
Flavor: The taste is fairly sweet for the style, orange candy sweetness, citrus and floral hops
Palate: The body is medium (plus), and it kind of coats the mouth with a lasting, cloying feel to it
Overall Impression: I guess ye ole description could use an update, as this one is available in 12 oz bottles (I would know as I am currently drinking one). Anyway, this was actually rather solid. Considering that this is one of the (very) few breweries in a beer-lacking state, I wasn't really expecting much from them, but so far their stuff has not been too bad. I'll keeping drinking Diamond Bear brews when I'm in town.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 6/1/11

Aroma: The nose has some orange, grapefruit, and caramel notes to it
Appearance: Pours a caramel-brown color with a lasting beige head, good lacing
Flavor: The taste is reasonably sweet up-front with a nice bitter hop finish to it
Palate: Medium (plus) body, a creamy mouthfeel that's a touch metalic, and a long lasting, dry finish
Overall Impression: I'm finally "enjoying" my first beer from Arkansas, and since I'm going to be spending entirely too much time in Little Rock in the near future, this surely won't be my last. My second beer of June also happens to be my 2nd new state rating of the month. That's some top quality state ticking! As for this beer in particular, it was pretty solid. It leans toward the sweet side, and is something I'd drink again. Better then I expected (for Arkansas!).

on tap at the brewery pours gold with a medium white head. Aroma is pine, dank hops. Flavor is toast, nutty character like almonds with a strong hop presence in the finish with pine and cascade. Finishes with a little bit of metallic astringency.

on tap at the brewery pours light amber with a medium tan head. Aroma is toast, nuts, pine and floral hops. Flavor is outstanding, this is a style I usually don’t care for but this was the best beer I had at the brewery. Lots of caramel, toast, nuts, bread malts ending with a really fresh and strong pine hop finish. This beer has substance.

Draught at a pub in the Little Rock Airport. Amber colored, low head. Refreshing, hoppy pale ale with caramel malt and pretty good balance. Nice. The best of their three I tried.
