330ml bottle from Chez Marie, Ieper. Pours hazy deep amber with good white bubbly head. Aroma is light hop. Flavours appear quite muted, was really looking forward to this given De Plukker’s hop-growing background, but ironically that’s what it seemed to lack. Some malt, yeast and hay, but ultimately not a memorable beer.

Tasted at De Stokerij, a place in Ghent I enjoy a lot, from tap. Apparently not made anymore - had it there in August 2013. Creamy, stable, light beige head, deep ruby red colour with brownish hue, misty. Aroma of caramelly malts, banana, chocolate, dried plums, raisins and a hint of old single malt. Taste of dark fruits (candied dates, pear) on a caramelly and somewhat chocolatey maltiness, a bit yeasty, gentle roasted bitterishness in the finish, medium long hop bitterishness. A dubbel if you ask me - but considering the lack of interest in styles typifying Belgian breweries, I won’t argue about the style given above.

The first beer made by a company which grows hops organically and apparently the name was taken from a beer brewed up till the sixties. Thin light beige head, very dark brown colour. Aroma of caramel, green banana, pear, dried fig, cooked turnip, some vague cabbage, fondant chocolate, a whiff of coffee, grassy hops, walnuts; ’clean’ and subduedly sweetish onset, bananan, raisin and plum accents, spritzy carbo, smooth and slick mouthfeel, very caramelly maltiness with bittering toasted aspect, a tad metallic, soft herbal hop bitterishness in the finish, medium long. Straightforward but technically well done.

Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Pours hazy brown with small tan head. Aroma of raisins, overripe fruit, caramel and leather. Flavor is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

Bottle(RBESG, Degustation grande, Moncada): Amber coloured, almost clear, stable off-white head; caramelly and fruity nose with very small traces of herbal hops; light to moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, relatively light bodied; slightly lingering caramelly-ffuity finish with some hops in the very end. O.K.; but surely not exciting…

Bottle shared at the RBESG ’14, Grander Tasting @ Moncada, 09/08/14. Murky mahogany brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is earthy, toffee, brown bread. Taste comprises mellow fruit, earthy, spice, fruit cake. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok Belgian offering.
