Description

Friekens brouwt al jaren bijzondere bieren op kleine schaal. Ondanks de geringe hoeveelheden wist het bier van Friekens zich in de kijker te spelen doordat het getapt werd op (sub-)culturele festivals als Robodock, Jetlag en Paint & Beer. Inmiddels is de capaciteit van de brouwerij vertienvoudigd, en is Friekens bier klaar voor een breder publiek. Eerst op de ADM, later in Villa Friekens, een gekraakt industrieel complex aan de Landsmeerdijk in Amsterdam-Noord. Nadat Villa Friekens werd ontruimd en ‘herontwikkeld’ tot villawijk verhuisde de Friekens Brouwerij naar Sportpark De Melkweg in Tuindorp Oostzaan. Voorheen brouwde Friekens in een oude zeecontainer

Draught @ In de Wildeman Aroma is mild with toffee, caramel and some roastiness. Flavour has coffee, some caramel, hayish and harsh malt and toffee. Mild bitterness in the finish. Pleasant and quite good for this ABV.

gravity cask @ Wild West Brewfest (although it's also available in bottles). Pours a hazy yellow colour with no head to speak off. Aroma's are malty, grainish, with additional fruit and grassy hops retronasal. Flavour is mild bitter with some fruity sourness. Light bodied, low carbonation. Finish is rather bitter. Nice enough.

Draft at In de Wildeman. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of citrus, fruity notes, light smoke and light malt. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', best before January 2020. Clear, golden with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, gently fruity, moderately grassy and slightly floral aroma of lemon peel, pineapple and some grass. Moderately sweet, slightly bitter, gently fruity-grassy and a bit floral taste of lemon peel, pineapple, some grass and just hints of grains, followed by a short, moderately bitter, smooth finish. Thin to medium body, very smooth mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very pleasant beer with a massive drinkability.

33cl Bottle from Stroop. Brown colour, beige head. Aroma of nuts, light cocoa, hint of mocha. Flavour follows, light yeasty, watery. Not bad but lacks body.

33cl Bottle at Stroop. Hazy golden orange colour, white head. Aroma is light herbal, bordering on Bretty, hay, hint of funk, light salty, might be the smoked malts but there no smoke in the nose. Flavour is malty, just a pinch of smoke, light salty, floral, hint of orange, some sweetness peeking through, bitter finish. Light bodied. Not really clean but definitely tasty.

Draught @ Planet Oedipus. Amber to brown color. Small almost white head with a bit of lacing. Aroma's: grain, light fruity. Retronasal: red fruit, light sweet. Flavor: light bitter. Light bodied. Light moderate bitter finish.

Tap at Planet Oedipus 2018. Hazy dark amber with white head. Sweet malts, grainy and light fruity. Leathery and dry. Moderate sweet and more bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation.
