Winterfest 2010. Aged beer without bourbon = win. Oak up front in the aroma. Belgian yeast is also there. Flavor is sweet with malt, coriander, and wheat, like Karmeliet, but not quite that good. Yeasty finish and yellow color.

Loads of oak and vanilla in the aroma and the flavor. Khaki colored head on top of the black beer. Vanilla extract in the flavor. Moderately hopped. Herbal finish with dry roasted grain. The vanilla did not come out as well as I would have liked, but still good.

9th October 2008. GABF. Opaque black beer. Sweet and dry porter. The smokiness is subtle but contributes to the very dry finish. A little too dry!

Draught, ABR 2009. Light copper color. Aroma and flavor have lightly bitter hops and some raw grain, but the flavor are very light, and it just doesn’t taste that great. Still a good idea that they should refine and bring back.

Draught, ABR 2009. Good caramel malt. Standard bock flavor, malt, no hops really. Brown color. A solid doppelbock.

Imperial pint pour on cask at the brewpub. It is a beautiful cask pour, the body unfolds for a few minutes. Big thick head that sits around for a while. The color is lightly hazy dark amber. Aroma is very musky and sweaty malts, lots of sweaty malts covering the hops. Flavor is still sweaty but the bitterness of the hops breaks through and sticks around long into the aftertaste.

Imperial pint @ the brewpub. This is a hoppy Belgian, the new "it" style. Color is clear dulled golden with a medium head that fades to a surface covering lacing. Aroma is very hoppy with earthy and herbal aspects. Al this is wrapped around a Belgian earthiness. The flavor is the same with the thin esters persisting in the flavor. It is definitely a Belgian IPA but all the aspects together just don’t work for me.

Imperial pint @ the brewpub. There is something weird about such a corporate place, in an empty "downtown" calling this beer red light. Its a good looking wit with a thick cloudy body that one cannot see through yet it glows that yellow/straw color. Aroma is light wit, high on the coriander with other citric aspects. Flavor is similar with a nice mellow cereal and sweet un-citric lemon. It simple and works great, not hard to make a good wit.

Imperial pint at the brewpub. This was my least favorite beer at the time. The pour is a dark brown with light edges and a small head. Aroma is some empty roast and a weird metallic aspect that is interfering with the beer. Flavor losses that metallic and is just some simple roast with some sweetness at t the end. Not complex, real simple, and something off. I’ll give it another chance next time because this may be just one bad batch.

On tap at Rock Bottom Minneapolis on 05/26/2009. Slightly hazy orange amber body with a medium soapy off-white head. Big floral, citrus and light resiny hop aroma with a bit of caramel background. Big floral hop flavor, some citrus and resiny notes, on a pale malt background with a fairly bitter finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.
