Description
We are dedicated to the entire experience of craft; from our creative food menu to our unique beers. The adventure started with creating a perfect beer, and we have kept that focus since our opening in 2005 with 31 combined rotating taps plus hard cider and a variety of wines. The Saugatuck Brewing Company (SBC) has a large family friendly pub, outside patio plus a secondary tap room dubbed “The Barrel Room” for multiple different dining and drinking experiences in one building. We operate on a 45 barrel Brew System with 960 barrels of Fermentation Space and the ability to age over 400 wood barrels at one time.

Can thanks to MrsSHIG: Poured a deep black with a finger high creamy light brown head. Aroma is strawberry, chocolate, malty, fruits dominate. Taste is rich malts, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, some artificialness in the finish.

Odd pint, offering up traditional notes of apple, cocoa, nuts, and toast, but underscored by damp earth, yeast, and oh so much oak. Not sure the base beer is strong enough to stand up to this much wood; finishes like a two-by-four sandwiched between pumpernickel bread.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a slightly cloudy, deep chestnut with a small beige head. Big bourbon focused notes with lots of oak, caramel and prune notes with some light char as it warms up. More of the same on the palate, sweet and boozy. Lingering marshmallow, candied yam and bourbon.

355ml can: BB Feb 2022. Drank at home on 16th May 2021. Poured into an old Augustijn chalice, slight mist in the golden body, wispy white head. Aroma and initial flavour of Barley Sugar sweets, but not as 'sweet' taste wise thank goodness. Calmed down a bit and some balance arrived mid-sip. Nice!

US Pint can (473ml), 3.7% ABV version: BB Feb 2022. Poured into a Good People (of Birmingham, Alabama) glass at home on 14th May 2021. Really enjoyed this, nice simple, easy to drink beer without a truck load of hops or strange additives in the brew. Slight haze to the golden body, full white crown on top. Pleasant hop nose and taste, decent malt base and a semi-bitter finish.

Can from Beer 52 – as part of a “New York” box ! Nose has sweet fruits – presumably strawberry, but the chewy sweet kind, not the actual fruit. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small and transient beige head. In the mouth it’s a lucky dip. Sometimes you get intense dark chocolate, sometimes you get strawberry sweetness. The vanilla is a little harder to pin down until you realise it is what is causing the creamy texture. I really like this beer – but would only drink it on an occasional basis.
