Description
The Crescent Brewery LLC takes it’s name and inspiration from one of the founding businesses of our town. The original Crescent Brewery was built in 1906 and opened for business in 1907. The brewery produced lager style beer for the local market. Products were packaged in kegs and a variety of glass bottle sizes and were available throughout the state. The flagship product was Overland Beer which featured a horse-drawn stage on the label which drew inspiration from Nampa's location along the Oregon Trail. During Prohibition the brewery changed it’s name to the Overland Beverage Company and survived by making sarsaparilla and “near beer” products. Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Overland Beverage Company was renovated and continued production of their Overland, Stutz, and Crescent brands until 1950, when the brewery closed. The original brewery building was demolished in 1966.

Aroma of butter and toffee, malt. Taste is more of the same with a hint of hops. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth, buttery. Hops dry it out on the finish. Easy drinker.

Light and airy, mildly bitter with a hint of honey sweetness. Gorgeous billowy head, malt backbone comes through in nose and taste. Slick mouthfeel, with abrupt dry finish, some grapefruit.

Coconut hides in the background, and compliments the general nuttiness of this beer, while softening it a tad with some subtle sweetness. Aroma is pure porter, while taste is a bit bolder, although in addition to the mild sweet flavor, there’s some soapiness also. Still trying to figure this one out.

Very dark and velvety smooth rye ale, hints of the titles caramel come through in some sweetness on the palate. Dark brown with minimal head, dark grains provide most of the bite. Some burnt toast bitterness remains.

Not impressed with this one, even though it was designated their most popular. My wife really liked it, but she prefers English bitters. Very soft, to the point of blandness, caramel color with faint malt aroma. Mouthfeel while slick, was very tasteless (to me).

Fruit flavor softens the otherwise bitter palate of this brew. Dark brown with small crown of tight beige head. Aroma is mostly dark cherries, some dark malt creeps through. Taste is initially sweet fruit, transforming to mild bitterness on the way down. Some sweet bitterness lingers.

On Tap at Brewforia Beer Market, Meridian, ID. A murky medium brown. Decent off-white head with nice sheets of lacing. A somewhat cider aroma and an unusual sour cider flavor. Little in the way of hoppy IBUs and a quickly fading bitterness that is more like a woody sourness. i would not have guessed ESB. Not unpleasant but strange.

On Tap at Brewforia Beer Market, Meridian, ID Deep chestnut brown witha thin but persistent light tan head. Nice retention, actually. Heavy long lasting sticky lacing. Very attractive in the glass. Sweet light roasted aroma, with a little chocolate and a little fruity cidery hint as well. Flavor is pretty busy. Roasted carmely flavors, a little sweet, and plenty of spice. Late charcoal notes and a noticeable ABV hit. DK what the % is but it tastes a bit high. Moderate carbonation and a thick unfiltered feel. There is something else, almost a Belgian yeast flavor as well. Particularly early but not in the aftertaste. Tasty and takes a couple strange turns from a typical porter.

On Tap at Brewforia Beer Market in Meridian, ID. Hazy deep copper color witha small but lastiung sandy colored head that leaves nice lacing all the way down. Malty and rich, with a nice smokey peat flavor. Quite strong at 8% and softly carbonated. Very nice offering from new upstart Crescent Brewery in Nampa, ID
