About
In 1933 Charles Caulier, a miner, left his job and decided to set up as a beer reseller in Bonsecours, a small village in the south of Belgium. In 1980, Roger and Linda Caulier took over the family business and continued progressing.
The warehouses soon became too cramped so they took over the buildings of a former tannery in Péruwelz. The products of the Brewery are still brewed in these buildings today.

In the early 1990s, Roger and Linda decided to market their own beer: a custom-made high fermentation blonde. The Bon Secours was born! These were promising beginnings but they still dreamt of creating their own brewery. A dream which became reality when they bought the machinery from the Deneve brewery in Schepdaal and inaugurated the first brew in 1996!

In 2007, the NV Brasserie Caulier was declared bankrupt. At the beginning of 2008, the activities were transferred to a private limited company of the sons of Roger Caulier, who subsequently adopted the name Brasserie et Distillerie Caulier. As of 2012, Laurent, Bertrand and Vincent joined their parents in the adventure. In order to respond to the growing demand for its products, in 2018 the Brewery began a large multi-annual programme of investments with the goal of tripling its production capacity. The historical Brewing House has been extended, new fermentation and storage tanks have been added, and the bottling line has been modernised.

33 cl swing top bottle. Pours orange to dark copper color, lots of particles of sediment, short creamy spent white head. Aroma of wine rotten fruit, stale bread, doughy yeast, vague wood and varnish notes. Noticeable alcohol with a finish of solvent, heavy body, muddy finish. Taste is kinda bitter, although it has a sweetish beginning, texture is dusty. Very unclean, and quite weird to me, not my preference in the style.

16 February 2019. At Cambrinus, Bruges. Cheers to the family! Pours hazy amber-brownish with a lasting, small, unstable, frothy, off-white head; irregular lacing. Aroma of caramel, candi sugar, peanuts, raisin, candied orange, Pim's biscuits, yeast, plum, licorice. Taste is medium to heavy sugary sweet, lots of caramel, fruity candied orange & raisin; balanced by a medium herbal bitterness with green tea, some brioche, spicy licorice & bitter orange peel; bit yeasty & sourish in the back. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering licorice, caramel & candied fruit. Medium body, slick-syrupy texture, fizzy carbonation. Typical Belgian sugary Amber but with enough balance, I like it.

Strong yeasty nose. Hazy medium golden colour, small frothy white to off-white head, mostly diminishing. Aroma toasted malt, butter, Belgian yeast, caramel, overripe apple. Taste light heavy sweet and light bitter, yeasty, caramel, light cinnamon, cardamom and cloves, fruity touch, alcohol. Sweet and a bit bitter aftertaste, alcohol, fruity notes, spicy bite, full-bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Beer to sip slowly, aroma and taste develop while warming up, well-balanced, good tripel-like brew

Bottle at home. Three years old. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Malty aroma of grains, wet hay, liqueur, almonds, dried peaches, herbs, and some alcohol. The flavour is similar and is quite malty with some dried fruits and alcohol. Has a slick mouth feel, full-bodied and a light bitterness. Malty and heavy, and a little boozy.
