33cl Fles bij Hijgend Hert. Mistig gouden kleur, witte kraag. Droog, licht bloemig, hint van dennen, licht harsig, herbaal, hint van citrus, niet echt IPA-achtig, meer hoppig Blond maar prima te genieten in het zonnetje op het terras bij dit prachtige boscafé.

Tripel ‘oaked’ with oak chips (there seems to be a dubbel version too); at Gist in Brussels. Snow white, moussey, stable head lacing in shreds over a clear ‘metallic’ golden beer with warmer old gold tinge. Aroma of wet toast and rusk, dried orange peel, hint of old cinnamon, vanilla indeed from the oak chips, almond, something faintly smoky (cigarette tobacco), rusty iron. Clean, sweetish onset, very sleek, apple peel and apricot hints, perhaps some pear and mandarin, medium carbonated with very slick, bit oily, thinnish body; dry-biscuity and rusk-like maltiness, very smooth with a light toastiness and mild herbal hop bitterness at the end, along with honeyish residual sugars and vanilla-scenting oak wood, sprinkled over it all in a rather superficial and artificial way. A hint of rusty iron lingers too. Feels very sleek and clean, ‘industrial’ even and aimed at a larger audience – all elements it has in common with Palm’s Cornet, which enjoys considerable popularity, so I can understand why Grain d’Orge opts for this formula… I prefer a truly oak barrel aged beer, though.

Roodbruin bier met mooi stevig schuim. Smaak is bitter zoet en hoppig met iets van citrus, wat dennen, zoethout en wat citrus. Heel goed.
