The name Cramer has been synonymous with Warsteiner since 1753. Today the ninth generation of the clan, Catharina Cramer, carries on a long tradition of brewing excellence, backed by a rich German heritage, a high-quality range and a clear strategy to continue shaping the future of the German and the international beer market.

In 1753, farmer Antonius Cramer was asked to pay beer tax for the first time as his home brewing volumes surpassed by some way the volume allowed for personal consumption. Little did he know that his actions would kick-start a long-standing brewing tradition in Warstein – a small town located in the middle of the beautiful Arnsberg forest, in the heart of Germany’s Sauerland region. Since that date, the business has gone from strength to strength.

Bottle
Head is average and lacey. Pale golden colour. Not much aroma. Quite drinkable - some hops in the finish, neutral but not bad.
Re-rate:
Aroma is hoppy. Light version of Urquell.

Paid: $1.02 for a 500 ml bottle; freshness date on back 13. MAI. 04 Very crisp and clear light golden. Looks pretty thin, but it's so clear I bumped it up .5; Very little head. Not much of a smell... maybe a bit grassy, and smells like a hint of honey, but I could be imagining that. Not much of a taste to be had, which might make this a good beer for someone just starting to move away from the mainstream. Thin in the mouth, but this would make a good session beer, because it's light and unfilling. Definitely worth the buck and two pennies... but not much more than that.

A light yellow beer with a beutiful head. The aroma is sour - as if brewing cereal has been used - but it can't be. The flavor also contains notes of grain, malt, and straws. The body is thin - but what did I expect?

A readily available, although somewhat average, German Pilsner. I prefer a little more body, but this is a refreshing light beer that undoubtably will have a following somewhere. Not bad, but there are better beers from Germany.

Dark brown in colour with a thin white head. Fragrant cherry/cranberry aroma with a perfect amount of maltiness. Light-bodied; Mild flavour, a bit of sweetness in the taste. Aftertaste mild as well, not showing much character. Overall, smells and looks much better than it actually is! I had this pint on draught at the Old Toad in Rochester, New York on 20-October-2003.

Amazingly, I was up for sampling a few beers the night after the Fort Wayne tasting. Had this on tap at the Steinkeller in Oxford, OH. Nothing remarkable or interesting. Clear straw-colored body, with a thin white head. Grassy, bitter hops aroma. Flavor was much the same, with grassy, bitter hops and a very light malt backbone. Thin-bodied and typical of foreign macroswill.

On draught at the German Village Oktoberfest. I guess this is a newer offering from Warsteiner and isn't a terrible attempt. Hazy orange color with a thin light beige head. More hops than malt in the aroma, which is kind of a change in this style for me. Medium-bodied and almost over-carbonated with the hop profile dominating, although the malt begins to assert itself a little more on the backswing. The finish is rather slick. This isn't a great beer by any stretch but it does the job nicely on a cold Oktoberfest evening.

Bottled. Pale golden with fine creamy head. Grassy hop aroma. Pleasantly dry and weel hopped. Slightly mellow body. The finish drya nd lingering bitter. I've had much worse beers aboard airplanes...

Chestnut brown; light nutty caramel aroma; nutty palate, good soft malt character. Sweetish, touch sugary...simple, relatively light but enjoyable.
