About
Crouch Vale Brewery was established in 1981 by two beer enthusiast. The brewery was cobbled up from whatever was available cheaply. In 2006 a new brewery, purpose-built and capable of much more consistent and better product quality, was opened. However, the original production ethos was (and still is) maintained – ingredients are purchased on quality rather than price and the brewery is still manned by real people, who hand-craft the beers.

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival 2004, gravity dispense. Crouch Vale’s attempt at a red Irish style ale - not a bad try IMO. Reddish colour, malty / toffee / caramel aroma, hints of oak. Malty caramel flavour with a surprisingly hoppy bitterness. Very good. A great combo with burger & chips.

Anchor Street Porter from Crouch Vale Brewery

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival 2004, gravity dispense. Colour is black / very dark ruby. Aroma is roast malts on an initially unpleasant background of vomit, gets better as the beer warms up. Flavour is much better, again: roast malts and coffee. Bitterness seems just right. Easy drinking.

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival 2004, gravity dispense. The hops are what it’s all about with this light and refreshing golden ale. Would benefit from being served at a slightly cooler temperature than was the case at the IBF. Lovely hoppy aroma and flavour, notes of grapefruit and pineapple. Recommended!

Light looking beer with a slightly frothy head, the aroma is slightly spicy and hopped, and the flavour is dry/hopped. Overall a basic ale.

Flat looking dark ale with a light coffee aroma, and a weak light coffee flavour. Overall a fairly plain strong mild.

[Cask at Charlie's Bar, Copenhagen] A dark nut brown beer with a fine beige head, though collapsing. The aroma is light of fruit, caramel, and nuts. The flavor is flowery (roses), fruity, and rather sweet, but with a nice grassy hoppyness, and a bitterness that balances the sweetness, and lingers on the tongue. A great flavor.

Fine Pale Ale (FPA) from Crouch Vale Brewery

[Cask at Charlie's Bar, Copenhagen] An orange beer with a fine dense head that has no aroma. The flavor is good, dominated by aroma hops, oranges, grass, and hop oils. It prickles the tongue before it ends on a dry yet oily note.

[Cask at Charlie's Bar, Copenhagen] A black beer with a small chocolate brown head but not aroma. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and roasted notes. It has a somewhat bitter dry malty finish and a good palate.

[Cask at Charlie's Bar, Copenhagen] The aroma is sweet and hoppy. The color is a slightly hazy orange and it has a fine head. The flavor is sweet with notes of oranges and aroma hops. It ends on a great bitterness from great hops. All in all a great beer.
