Description

330ml bottle. Cloudy, amber-ish, brown colour with small to average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Toasty malty, yeasty fruity and slightly citrusy hoppy aroma, hints of mandarine, a touch of brown bread, dark berries and dried fruit, a peppery, spicy, yeasty touch. Taste is sweet-ish, minimally bready, toasty malty, slightly citrusy hoppy, minimally phenolic, yeasty fruity, hints of mandarine, dried fruit, fruitcake, some fresh apple, some hop bitterness, a cautious touch of grape sugar. Watery texture, smooth and soft palate, fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Surprisingly refreshing, quite drinkable - nice.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Hazy yellow with lots of floaties and a big white head. Malty aroma with some citrus hops. Sweet taste with a bit raw grainy finish. Nice low alcohol try but not great.

330ml bottle. Hazy, orangey-brown colour with small to average, frothy, collapsing, off-white to beige head. Smoky and slightly caramel malty aroma, notes of smoked ham, smoked eel, wood ashes, whiffs of juniper berries, laurel, black and white pepper, pine needles, whiffs of honey; a collocation that could be used as lamb roast crust. Taste is smoky and herbal-spicy, caramel malty, slightly woody, minimally tart and soapy, notes of pine needles, a touch of juniper berry, laurel, subtle sweetness, fruity hoppy overtones with a touch of mandarine and orange. Watery texture, slightly dry, minimally astringent palate, medium, minimally prickly palate. Nice smoky flavours, not overly bock-ish - I understand the bad ratings because it seems to be a weird brew - but I like it.

Fast gone rim over darker cognac-coloured beer. Alcohol, brandy, sweetish, houseplants. Sweet, human sweat, coriander, faint sourish touc, and again very boozy/alcohol/fusels. Chaptalized, no doubt. Alcoholheat, long sweet aftertaste. Not thick, but well-bodied, oily. Hmmm... so far the best of Grutte Pier - which is not saying much. Thanks to Stef!

Herbal nose. Clear medium amber colour, small frothy off-white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma malty, herbs, dark bread, earthy notes. Taste medium sweet and bitter, dark rye bread, malty backbone, herbs, grass. Retronasal light smoke, prickly mouthfeel, medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation. Sweetbitter aftertaste, malty and earthy notes, not really a fresh kuit beer, clear malty presence all the way, interesting and more than nice.
