About
We have been brewing beer for beer lovers since 1994. The brewery was founded in the city of Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands) which is situated at the banks of the Eastern Scheldt (Dutch: Oosterschelde). In 2008 the brewery moved to the city of Hoogstraten in Antwerp Province, just across the Belgian border with The Netherlands. There we continued to brew well balanced beers, classic Belgian with a modern touch. Many characteristics still refer to our birthplace. Our mascot the crab is also the mascot of Bergen op Zoom and the two so called ‘wild men’ are shown in the flag and coat of arms of the city since 1622. These wild men are still shown on all our labels, portraying the different beer names.
Every sip of Scheldebeer has been brewed in our own brewery, build with love and care. We are ambitious brewers who prefer craft beers with a sense of the past and a taste of the present. True to traditions but always looking for an exciting balance between nostalgic and new, modest and daring. Our beers are unfiltered, unpasteurized and have bottle refermentation. Bottle. Hazy amber color with a average frothy good lacing mostly lasting light brown head. Aroma is moderate yeasty, sugar, koriander. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily / syrupy, carbonation is soft.

Hazy pale orange color, creamy steady white head. Banana and coriander in the nose. Soft, light palate. Wheat, coriander and orange peel in the flavor. Nothing special, but quite refreshing summer drink type of beer. Beer to drink at terrace when temperature is reaching +35c.

(bottle, 9% abv, with thanks to Edo!) Hazy, ruby colour with a fluffy beige foamy head. Dusty, sweet toast-malty aroma with cacao, chocolate and light notes of toffee. Sweet flavour, toast-malty taste with dried fruits (raisins) and light notes of caramel; sweet, slightly vinous and spicy finish. Pleasant.

Draft at De Wildeman, Amsterdam. Belgian yeast in the aroma and flavor as well. The beer is black. Thick and heavy on the palate. Flavor has some coffee and milk. Oatmeal in the finish. Easy to drink and a surprising alcohol kick that one doesn’t expect from the smooth, mild flavor.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Amber colour with foamy, but brief, off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of dried fruit (figs, prunes) and peaches. Fruity, slightly yeasty, taste with dried fruit, hints of chocolate, cherries, marzipan and a nice dash of grassy, spicy hops in the finish. Smooth and rounded mouthfeel. Well made and well balanced brew.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Black colour with firm pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with underlying fruit and notes of blueberries, tobacco and chocolate. Roasted, malty taste with blueberries, liqourice, chocolate, hints of tar, smoke and soy sauce. Some sweetness coming through in the rather short finish. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice taste, but wouldn’t suffer from some extra punch.

Bottle at Battersea BF 2007. Hazy amber colour with sediment in suspension. Thin lasting off white head. Surprising fruit on aroma. Quite spritzey on palate. Some yeast throughout. Some syrupy fruit/malt flavour.

Spicy taste with distinct coriander notes, hints of Seville orange, curacao and orange peel. Rather malty and dry finish. Very nice and spicy.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 2 Feb 2007) Dark ruby colour with huge beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dark berries (raspberries, blackberries, black-currant) and fresh notes of coriander. Malty taste with the same berries as in the aroma and with a spicy, juicy, vinous and warming finish with balanced notes of bitterness. Medium to full body. Tasty and warming.

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. (9.5%) Muddy amber with extremely lively head. Flowery yeasty nose. Sweet and full bodied with lively carbonation. Lightly grassy with spun sugra and some tart berries. A discrete, yet complex and aromatic beer. Interesting and tasty.
