Description
We are Swinkels Family Brewers, a 100% independent family brewer and proud of it. Thanks to three centuries of craftsmanship and a healthy entrepreneurial spirit, we have come to where we are today. With a deep respect for people and for our environment. Because in this respect too, we like to be ground-breaking. This is how we continue to pass a more beautiful Swinkels Family Brewers on to the next generation.
For many years now, we have used 1719 as the year in which we were founded and we mention this year on some of our labels. This is the year from which the oldest excise papers were found. But a municipal archivist who researched our origins last century remarked that the origins of the brewery probably go back much further, to 1680.From 1773 on the brewery and the Swinkels family are connected inextricably. In 1924 we open a new brewery. A year later, the three brothers Frans, Piet and Jan Swinkels founded the company 'Gebroeders Swinkels'. They then introduced a new (bottom fermentation) brewing method for brewing pilsner.
in 1935 the three brothers Jan, Piet and Frans Swinkels open a new brew house, which is still operational today. In 1940 Johannes Swinkels opens our own malt house. This gives us more control over the quality of this important raw material for our beer. In 2007 the 6th generation of Swinkels pass on the baton to the 7th generation. We change our trade name into Swinkels Family Brewers in 2018. A year later the firm receives the Royal designation, changing its name, therefore, to Royal Swinkels Family Brewers.

Clean, brown colour with some amber-ruby highlights, a light-beige frothy head, good stay and sticky lacing. Some roasted malt in the nose, with a tad sour cream, wet cardboard and a touch of grass. The mouthfeel is kind of creamy, not overly thick, nor syrupy with a certain wetness. A little chocolat in the taste, hints of molasses, blending with the roasted-caramel malts. Nothing too offensive, but still feels like a Macro, with some unbalanced notes.

A clean, reddish colour with with a big, frothy-creamy pink head, good retention and thick, foamy lacing. Cherry essences in the aromas reminding you of Cherry Halls, or candy Nibs. Hints of sourness in the finish, with a tad tart left. The taste has the cherries, but not overly sweet, with a mild tarty finish. My GF thinks it taste like Vick's Cherry cough drops, and it is essences of cherry - but I am not disgusted by it. I find it well done for what it is.

500ml can. Pours a crystal clear gold with a medium, frothy, short lived, white head that laces. Mild aroma of grainy pale malt, orange and floral hops. Sweet flavour of grainy pale malt, grapefruit and piney hops in a dry, bitter finish. Light to medium body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Meh, an overly sweet macro IPA.

50cl can from Maxima, Tallinn. Pours clear golden with a white head. Mild grainy aroma with hints of hay. Moderate to medium sweet with low flavour intensity and ditto bitterness. Clean, but boring.

500ml can. Pours a clear magenta with a large, foamy, long lasting, pink head that leaves sticky curtains of soapy lace. Sweet fruity aroma of bready wheat malt, artificial cherry and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, artificial cherry, blackcurrant and floral hops in a dry, slightly tart finish. Medium body with a syrupy texture and soft carbonation. A bit sweet and artificial, but still exceeded my expectations.

Can from Delhaize.
A: clear golden, stable, frothy, white head.
A: cooked apple, vodka, white rum, white sugar, detergent, wet cloth.
T: sweet cooked apple & pear, white sugar, soap, bitter vodka.
F: wry, bitter plastic, boozy vodka-like alcohol.
P: medium body, oily texture, average carbonation.
Despite the obnoxious alcohol, it's actually more tasteless than wry.
