Description
To say we're 'born to brew' may seem like a bold statement, but after dedicating over 150 years to the art of brewing, we believe it's true.

Coopers is a brewing family. Its in our blood. For six generations we've been custodians of a proud legacy that began in 1862 when Thomas Cooper brewed his first batch of ale. Our passion for brewing has kept us together and helped us through economic recessions, wars, government imposts, changing tastes, and the occasional hostile takeover bid.

Today, our unique brand of naturally conditioned ales and stouts are enjoyed around the world and we're still making these beers using the same traditional brewing methods that Thomas did. And when we say hand-made by the Cooper family', we mean it. If you visit the Brewery you'll probably bump into a Cooper who works there. While other breweries might make all sorts of claims about their 'origins' the fact is that we are Australia's oldest family owned and run brewery, and that's not changing anytime soon.

375ml can. Cloudy, yellow-ish, golden colour with average, frothy, osteoprosing, minimally lacing, white head. Slightly grassy, zesty, fruity, hoppy aroma, minimally husky and spicy, pale malty background, hints of melon, a touch of lychee and salty cracker. Taste is moderately bitter, grassy and slightly fruity, minimally citrusy, hoppy, slightly spicy, pale malty basis, minimally diluted hints of lemongrass, lime, some salty cracker, a minimally waxy touch of lime peel, some zesty hop bitterness.

Maybe less intense than the XPA, but definitely a touch more crisp and refreshing - OK.

375ml can. Cloudy, orange, dark golden to amber colour with average, frothy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Slightly zesty, citrusy fruity hoppy aroma, pale and caramel malty background, hints of orange, mandarine, blood orange, grapefruit, lemon, zesty and minimally leafy overtones. Taste is slightly leafy and zesty, citrusy fruity hoppy, minimally sugary, pale malty basis, hints of orange, orange peel, lemon, grapefruit, lemongrass.

Nicely hopped and fairly fruity but overall a bit cautious, watery and furnished with too many leafy-zesty-grassy aspects to be really crisp and refreshing - OK.

0.355 l bottle from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', 2024 vintage. A bit hazy, deep reddish amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, rather fruity, gently resiny aroma of mango, orange, tobacco and pine. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, rather fruity and slightly resiny taste of grapefruit, orange jam, mango, pine and tobacco, followed by a medium long, quite bitter finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. I expected something like an ESA but this leans towards West Coast DIPA territory. Actually quite nice!

Lord knows when and where I got this. Vintage 2009. It must be said, though: this beer has aged impressively. Mellow toasted toffee, a little earthy biscuit, brown sugar, soft oxidation. Could do with a bit more body but it’s a nice beer overall.

0.375 l bottle from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', best before July 2026. Hazy, golden amber with a thin, frothy, quickly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly floral aroma of honey, some grains and hints of straw. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, a bit floral taste of honey, corn, some grains and traces of straw, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly dry finish. Thin to medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Super bland, almost stale; nothing special at all.

A dark yellow and quite murky beer, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has generic citrus, maybe slightly soapy and harsh. Taste has citrus and some strawberries. Medium bodied. There are some weird nuancees, decent.
