Description
Cotleigh Brewery began life in Devon in 1979, in the old stable block of Cotleigh Farmhouse at Washfield near Tiverton. Immediate success meant that in 1980 the brewery moved to the historic brewing town of Wiveliscombe in Somerset. Its original owner Ted Bishop was succeeded in the early 80's by John and Jenny Aries, who built upon the brewery's success. The brewery moved in 1985 to the current location in order to fulfil ever-increasing demand. Currently is Stephen Heptinstall the sole owner of the Brewery.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Amber with a white head; aroma of honey and fruit; similar taste with apricot and grapefruit, and rather sweet. Finish is slightly drier and has a spicy bitterness.(23Jan2009-6/3/6/3/14=3.2)

50cl bottle from the Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt. Amber with a fast fading white head; slightly musty aroma with traces of honey; rich texture with honey and apricot flavours; and a dry finish with some light floral hops. Rather good - and no change to my cask rating.

Cask handpull at Humphrey Bean JDW, Tonbridge. Mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Some malt sweetness on aroma, some choc. Not exactly full in mouth which lets it down a bit. I suppose there is some honey in there somewhere. An ok choccy honey beer which is just a little too watery in the mouth, but the flavours are overall good.

[500ml bottle from Majestic, bottle conditioned.] Black with a chestnut hue and a ring of tan head; aromas of smoke, licorice and chocolate; creamy in the mouth, exploding with chewy malts and sweet milk chocolate flavours; then a dry chocolate dominated finish. Very drinkable, but somewhat lacking in complexity.

Cask at the Queen Hotel (JDW), Aldershot. Reddish amber with a thin cream head; woody aroma with a touch of winter spice; sweet malty taste, with a twiggy bitterness; and some lingering malts to finish. Drinkable but not very exciting. (11Jan2016 6/4/6/3/11=3)
