About
Cotleigh Brewery began life in Devon in 1979, in the old stable block of Cotleigh Farmhouse at Washfield near Tiverton. Immediate success meant that in 1980 the brewery moved to the historic brewing town of Wiveliscombe in Somerset. Its original owner Ted Bishop was succeeded in the early 80's by John and Jenny Aries, who built upon the brewery's success. The brewery moved in 1985 to the current location in order to fulfil ever-increasing demand. Currently is Stephen Heptinstall the sole owner of the Brewery.

Bottle. Clear, copper pour, with a beige head. Malt, toffee, some chocolate, nuttyness and a biscuity touch in the aroma. The flavor is roasted, with some toffee, a wee note of chocolate, some nuttyness and a some biscuit-like flavors. Medium body. Dry, lightly hoppy finish with malt dominating. A nice one, it lead my thoughts to a nice mild. (070704)

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy amber to brown with a lacing off-white head. Dry malty nose, slight nutty and toffee. Rather hoppy dry blending in with a toffee malty flaour. Dry and hoppy bitter finish. Nice.

Cask (handpump) @ Whitefriars Olde Ale House, CV1, Coventry. Clear medium yellow / orange color with a small virtually none off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, grain, light hoppy, lime, fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat.

Bottle. Dark golden beer with a smooth head. The aroma is lightly toffee and dry and the flavour is quite gently biiter, well hopped and toffee roasted. Overall a nice beer.

bottle, bought at Darts Farm near Exeter. Dark colour, medium-sized head, aroma of roasted malt. Flavours of malt and roasted malt, wuite intensive. Solid hoppy background. Hints of fruit and chocolate.

beautiful bottle bought at Darts Farm near Exeter. Copper colour, quite dark, medium-sized persistent head. Very malty with a pleasantly hoppy background. Hints of nuts.

500ml bottle from Waitrose. Copper coloured with a peaky off-white head; stewed fruit aroma; slightly sour at first then developing a rounded caramel body; harsh bitter finish. Rather unrounded.

Big beige head. Deep red slightly hazy body. Aroma of tobacco, caramel, tea, and plums; quite harmonic. Deep, dry cocoa taste with notes of peas. Aftertaste is dry cocoa. Very nice. (0.5l bottle.)

Cask conditioned at The Lord Rosebery, Scarborough. Served at correct cellar temperature. Golden colour, low head. Moderate aroma, nothing stands out. Thin, sourish and watery initial mouthfeel. Tolerably hoppy flavour. Pleasant hoppy aftertaste.
