Davenports brewery began in 1829, and our range of revival cask beers harks back to some of the very original secret brews. Highgate Brewery was established in 1898 by James A. Fletcher and began brewing in 1899. Its best known for its classic midlands dark beers , with the “mild” style beer historically being a staple for the workers of the local area. at its peak its was producing 100,000 barrels of mild beer per year. Dares, established in 1927 in Birmingham, Davenports acquired the brand in 1960 now resurrected as a wicked craft beer brand for product and venues.

Cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Amber with a thin ring of white head; dry, earthy malt aroma; toffee sweetness dominates with a touch of citrus; dry, light hop finish. A fairly average pint.

Bottle 500ml.Clear light to medium amber color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090724]

Bottled. Golden colour, big white creamy head, that leaves nice lace. Aroma is fruits, wood, some earth and mild bready and caramelly malts. Flavour is sweet fruits, some sugar and mild honey. Rather rubbery and grainy aftertaste and finish.

Bottled (thanks hanniku!). Golden colour, mediumsized white foamy head. Aroma is parfume, fruits,zest and some mild caramel malty notes. Flavour is sweet malts, rather fruity including exotic fruits, some mild wood as well as mild herbal notes. Well balanced, but a bit sweet.

Hazy orange with a medium white head. Aroma was malty with fruity and caramel notes. Sweet flavour with hoppy, malty and caramel notes. Finished bitter.

Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Haz amber, rocky head. Spicy and resiny hops strike first. Dryish with bready malt and evident slivovic-like alcohol. Notes of honey dew before a finish with plenty of resiny bitterness. Primitive and sketchy perhaps, but not without it’s pleasing moments either.

Bottled (Citymarket Sello, BB 04/2010). Pale amber color, small white head, lots of bubbles. Toffee-nutty aroma. Very watery palate, at first like drinking mineral water. Then some candy-toffeish notes (bottle says "supplemented with torrefied wheat, honey, no. 3 invert block sugar and high-maltrose syrup") and late nutty bitterness with tea flavors. Totally useless flavor. Aftertaste has some hops - saves from the disaster, otherwise this is a kind of lemonade drink.
