Description
WE HAVE OVER 300 YEARS OF COMBINED BRAND HERITAGE, WITH SOME OF THE MOST ICONIC BEERS IN THE MIDLANDS WE ARE PROUD TO CONTINUE THIS BREWING HERITAGE.

Davenports brewery began in 1829, and our range of revival cask beers harks back to some of the very original secret brews. Highgate Brewery was established in 1898 by James A. Fletcher and began brewing in 1899. Its best known for its classic midlands dark beers , with the “mild” style beer historically being a staple for the workers of the local area. at its peak its was producing 100,000 barrels of mild beer per year. Dares, established in 1927 in Birmingham, Davenports acquired the brand in 1960 now resurrected as a wicked craft beer brand for product and venues.

Cask at Butlers Bell, Stafford. Pours golden yellow with a small off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – just vague hints of floral hops. In the mouth it fluctuates between sweet and bitter – but not much in either direction. Flavour has hops, grains and ginger plus hints of spice and citrus. Finish is quite bitter. Very highly carbonated – I’m wondering if it was a keg beer served through a hand pump ? Whatever, it’s OK.

Copied my rating and that didn't work. Originally rated as Highgate Dark Mild and then realised that the Davenports version was different. Score it 3.5 and enjoyed it.

Keg at Quuens Head, Birmingham. Aroma has caramel and that's it. Clear light chestnut. Thin creamy beige head. Tangy. Sout. Berries and a light caramel and rye edge. Slightly off sour element and malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Pretty poor stuff.
